Engine Pinging Noise/Detonation-Repair Procedure
AFFECTED VEHICLE RANGE
CONDITION SUMMARY:
ENGINE DETONATION UNDER LIGHT LOAD
Situation:
Jaguar Cars has found that certain normally aspirated XJ and S-TYPE models may exhibit a pinging noise under light load conditions.
Action:
In the case of a customer concern of the above condition, reconfigure the Engine Control Module (ECM) following the repair procedure outlined below.
PARTS:
No parts necessary.
TOOLS:
Jaguar IDS loaded with DVD108 Patch File 5 or later software and the Midtronics PSC-550 Vehicle Power Supply.

DDW requires the use of causal part numbers. Labor only claims must show the causal part number with a quantity of zero.
REPAIR PROCEDURE
CAUTION:
This procedure requires IDS DVD108 Patch File 5 software or later.
CAUTION:
A Midtronics PSC-550 Vehicle Power Supply must be connected to the vehicle battery during diagnosis.
1. Connect a Midtronics Vehicle Power Supply to the vehicle.
2. Connect IDS to the vehicle and begin a new diagnostic session.
3. Enter the correct VIN for the current vehicle.
4. When prompted "Do you wish to read diagnostic trouble codes?", select "NO".
5. Press "Tick" to continue.
6. Select Vehicle Configuration then "Module Programming".
7. Select Configure "Existing Modules".
8. Select and run "Engine Control Module (ECM)".
9. Follow all on-screen instructions to complete this task.
10. When the task is completed, exit the current session.
11. Disconnect IDS and the Midtronics PSC-550 Vehicle Power Supply.
