Compressor HVAC: Service and Repair



Air Conditioning (A/C) Compressor (82.10.20)

Special Service Tools







Removal

1. Recover the air conditioning (A/C) refrigerant.
2. Remove the air cleaner.
3. Loosen the A/C compressor supply and return tubes retaining bolt.







4. Disconnect the electrical connector.







5. Detach the engine wiring harness from the retaining bracket.







6. Remove the air deflector.

7. NOTE: Road wheel shown removed for clarity.

Remove the right-hand wheel arch liner access panels.







8. Using the special tool, detach the accessory drive belt.







9. Disconnect the engine oil pressure (EOP) sensor electrical connector.







10. Detach the oil filter head.
- Remove the retaining bolts.
- Remove and discard the O-ring seals.
- Install blanking plugs to the exposed ports.







11. NOTE: Using suitable hose clamps, clamp the hoses to prevent coolant loss.

Remove the oil filter head.
- Disconnect the coolant hoses.
- Install blanking plugs to the exposed ports.







12. NOTE: Remove and discard the O-ring seals if the old compressor is to be refitted.

Detach the A/C compressor supply and return tubes.
- Install blanking plugs to the exposed ports.







13. Remove the A/C compressor.
- Remove the retaining bolts.







Installation

1. Add refrigerant oil to the new compressor.

2. NOTE:
- If installing the old compressor, install new O-ring seals.
- If installing a new compressor, make sure that new O-ring seals are already installed.
- Coat the compressor O-ring seals in clean refrigerant oil prior to installation.

To install, reverse the removal procedure.
- Tighten to 25 Nm.







3. Tighten to 22 Nm.
- Install new O-ring seals.







4. Tighten to 20 Nm.
