Supplemental Restraint System (SRS)

Supplemental Restraint System (SRS)

Warning:
- Always wear safety glasses when working on a vehicle fitted with SRS.
- Prior to the removal of any SRS sensors and before disconnecting any SRS sensor electrical connectors, the battery ground cable must be disconnected and a period of 1 minute allowed to elapse.
- Do not handle deployed units for at least 20 minutes, to allow unit to cool.
- Carry a live air bag module with the deployment door pointed away from your body.
- Remote deployment must be carried out outdoors, personnel must be at least 6.1m (20 feet) away.
- Do not place air bag module face down, accidental deployment may cause unit to ricochet.
- After deployment, air bag surface may contain deposits of sodium hydroxide-use approved hand protection equipment.
- Restraints Control Module (RCM) will only need replacement after 5 separate deployments.
- To avoid accidental deployment, the backup power supply must be depleted before working on an SRS system.
- Never probe connectors on an air bag. Doing so may accidentally deploy unit.
- Vehicle sensor orientation is critical to correct deployment. Inspect the unit bracket after collision. If bracket or wiring is damaged-replace.

For detailed information regarding testing and removal of SRS components refer to: JTIS JJM 10 30 99/102.

The SRS system is designed to supplement the three-point safety belt system.

Only staff that have successfully completed the specific Jaguar XJ range SRS course should work on this system.

The SRS system is constructed from the following components:
1. Occupant Position Sensors: A-Pillar, Instrument panel and Roof lining (x 4).
2. Front Crash Sensor: Behind radiator grille.
3. Side Impact Sensors: B-Pillar and C-Pillar (x 4).
4. Seat Position Sensor: Under driver seat.
5. Front Passenger Seat Weight Sensor: Inside passenger seat.
6. Front Safety Belt Buckle Sensors: Belt Buckle.
7. RCM: On top of the drive shaft tunnel below the instrument panel console.
8. Driver Air Bag Module: Steering wheel.
9. Passenger Air Bag Module: Dash.
10. Side Air Bag Module: Outboard bolster of the front seat (x 2).
11. Side Air Curtain Module: Under the headlining between A and C-Pillar.
12. SRS Indicator: Instrument cluster.
13. Passenger Air Bag Module Deactivation Indicator: Instrument panel.
14. Clockspring: Steering column.

Note:
- The SRS sensors do not contain any serviceable components.
- The front seat occupant classification sensor is serviced as a calibrated assembly. The system must be replaced as a complete unit.
- In the event of side impact sufficient to deploy the side air bag module, it will be necessary to replace the complete seat.
- Storage, transportation and disposal must be carried out in line with local market requirements and regulations.
- Modules removed and deployed by Jaguar service are to be returned to the importer for disposal.
