Pinpoint Tests

CAUTION: When probing connectors to take measurements in the course of the pinpoint tests, use the adaptor kit, part number 3548-1358-00.

NOTE:
- When performing electrical voltage or resistance tests, always use a digital multimeter (DMM) accurate to 3 decimal places, and with an up-to-date calibration certificate. When testing resistance, always take the resistance of the DMM leads into account.
- Check and rectify basic faults before beginning diagnostic routines involving pinpoint tests.

PINPOINT TEST G532449p8 : CHECK THE FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE

G532449t19 : CHECK THE PUMP ACTIVITY
1. Remove the rear seat cushion.
2. Key on, engine off.
3. Listen for pump noise.

- Can the fuel pump be heard running?

-> Yes
GO to Pinpoint Test G532449t36.

-> No
CHECK for DTCs.

G532449t36 : CHECK THE FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE

WARNING: This procedure involves fuel handling. Be prepared for fuel spillage at all times and always observe fuel handling precautions. Failure to follow these instructions may result in personal injury.

Make sure the vehicle is in Park for vehicles with automatic transmission, Neutral for vehicles with transmission and apply the parking brake.

1. Place suitable absorbent material around the Schraeder valve to absorb any spillage when connecting the gauge set.
2. Connect adapter and gauge assembly 310-116 to the fuel Schraeder valve. Remove the absorbent material and dispose of safely.







3. Disconnect and plug the vacuum hose from the pressure regulator.
4. Open the valve on the fuel pressure gauge 310- 116.
5. Key on, engine off.
6. Record the fuel pressure reading.

- Is the fuel pressure 4.5 bar (65.25 lb/sq.in)?

-> Yes
GO to Pinpoint Test G532449t37.

-> No
CHECK for DTCs.

G532449t37 : CHECK THE FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE WITH THE ENGINE CRANKING
1. Key in start position.
2. Record the fuel pressure reading.

- Is the fuel pressure 4.5 bar (65.25 lb/sq.in)?

-> Yes
GO to Pinpoint Test G532449t38.

-> No
CHECK for DTCs.

G532449t38 : CHECK THE FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE WITH THE ENGINE IDLING (WHERE POSSIBLE)
1. Key on, engine running.

- Is the fuel pressure 4.5 bar (65.25 lb/sq.in)?

-> Yes
CHECK for DTCs and symptoms indicating another cause of the problem.

-> No
CHECK the fuel pump power and ground circuits, GO to Pinpoint Test G532449p6. PINPOINT TEST G532449p6 For V6 and V8 vehicles without supercharger and GO to Pinpoint Test G532449p4. PINPOINT TEST G532449p4 For V8 vehicles with supercharger.
