Procedure 18 - Replace Power Assist Steering Pipe

REPAIR PROCEDURE 18: V00477 - V02989

1. Refer to Workshop Manual section 211-00 and drain the power assist steering (PAS) fluid only.

2. Refer to Workshop Manual section 303-12 and remove the left-hand (LH) air cleaner.





3. Release the PAS fluid reservoir.





4. Disconnect the PAS fluid feed pipe from the PAS pump.

^ Remove and discard the sealing washers and banjo from the PAS fluid feed line.

5. Refer to Workshop Manual section 100-02 and raise and support the vehicle.





6. Disconnect the electrical connector.

NOTE:
Note the fitted position of the steering column flexible coupling.





7. Release the steering column flexible coupling.





8. Release and support the steering gear.





9. Release the PAS pipe support bracket.

^ Remove the nut.





10. Use a suitable jack and support the engine.

11. Remove the nut.





12. Remove the engine mounting assembly:

Remove the four (4) bolts.

NOTE:
Suspension shown removed from vehicle for clarity.





13. Detach the PAS fluid feed line from the retaining clips.





14. Using a suitable piece of wood, support the engine on the crossmember.

15. Remove and discard the PAS fluid feed line.

^ Install the new PAS fluid feed line.

^ Remove the jack.

^ Lower the vehicle.

^ Position the PAS fluid feed line to the PAS pump union.

16. Raise the vehicle.





17. Use a suitable jack to support the engine.

18. Remove the piece of wood from the crossmember.

19. Install the engine mount:

^ Tighten the four (4) bolts to 48Nm (35.5lbf ft).

20. Install the nut:

^ Tighten the nut to 63Nm (46.5lbf ft).





21. Secure the PAS pipe support bracket:

^ Tighten the nut to 10Nm (7.4lbf ft).





22. Secure the PAS gear:

^ Tighten the three (3) bolts to 100Nm (74lbf ft).





23. Secure the steering gear flexible coupling:

^ Tighten the bolt to 35Nm (25.8lbf ft).





24. Connect the electrical connector.

NOTE:
Suspension shown removed from vehicle for clarity.

25. Secure the PAS fluid feed line to the retaining clips.

26. Lower the vehicle.





27. Using a new banjo and sealing washers, secure the PAS fluid feed pipe to the PAS pump:

^ Tighten the banjo to 25Nm (18.4lbf ft).





28. Secure the PAS reservoir.

29. Refer to Workshop Manual section 303-12 and install LH air cleaner.

30. Refer to Workshop Manual section 211-00 and fill the power assist (PAS) steering fluid only.
