Horn: Description and Operation
Horn
COMPONENT LOCATION
OVERVIEW
Armored vehicles can announce their presence using a siren that produces either a 'wail' or a 'yelp' sound. The siren system consists of:
- A siren installed behind the RH (right-hand) side of the front bumper.
- An on/off siren switch on the covert options switchpack.
- A siren relay in the luggage compartment.
SYSTEM OPERATION
Pressing the siren switch illuminates an orange LED (light emitting diode) in the switch, to show that the system is active, and connects power from the satellite junction box to the siren. Operation of the siren is then triggered by momentarily pressing the steering wheel horn switch. While the steering wheel horn switch is pressed, in addition to the vehicle horns sounding, power from the RH (right-hand) horn energizes the siren relay, which connects a ground to the siren. When the siren detects the ground it operates the siren in wail mode. Further presses of the steering wheel horn switch cause the siren to toggle siren operation between the wail and yelp modes. Two presses in quick succession on the steering wheel horn switch stops siren operation, which resumes if there is a subsequent single press. Pressing the siren switch again de-activates the system and extinguishes the orange
LED (light emitting diode) in the switch.
