Refit
1. Fit the lifting chains to the lifting eyes on the engine as previously described in the removal procedure.2. Raise the engine on a floor crane and lower it into the engine compartment, ensuring that all harnesses, hoses, pipes and components are clear of the engine assembly.
3. With assistance, maneuver the engine until the bottom two engine bolt holes align with the appropriate two holes in the bell housing. Fit the two bolts and partially tighten. Ensure that he two cylinder block dowels locate in their respective holes in the bell housing.
4. Remove the hydraulic floor jack and lower the hoist until the engine rests securely on the engine mounting brackets.
5. Fit the top two bell housing to engine cylinder block securing bolts.
6. Fit the remaining bell housing to cylinder block bolts, and tighten (including the two bottom bolts).
7. With assistance from a second person to rotate the crankshaft pulley, line up the previously marked drive plate access hole with the respective bolt hole in the torque converter. Fit the two bolts and tighten to 35-42 Nm (25-30 ft lb). These bolts must have threads coated in sealant Loctite(r) 270 prior to assembly.
8. Rotate the crankshaft 180 degrees and fit the remaining two bolts to the flexible drive plate, tighten to 35-42 Nm (25-30 ft lb). These bolts must have threads coated in sealant Loctite(r) 270 prior to assembly.
9. Fit new gasket and refit the bottom cover to the bellhousing.
10. Fit new exhaust flange gaskets, fit the exhaust to the manifold.
11. Refit all harnesses, ground straps breather pipes and hoses to their correct locations at the rear of the engine.
12. Raise the engine and refit the engine mounting rubbers. Tighten the nuts to:
Engine mountings to engine and chassis 52Nm (38 ft lb)
Engine mounting rubbers to brackets 17-22Nm (13-16 ft lb)
13. Remove the temporary lifting eye FTC 5964.
14. Refit the two clamps securing the automatic gearbox oil cooler pipes to the bottom left hand side of the engine block.
15. Refit the harnesses behind the fuel rails.
16. Reconnect the injectors.
17. Reconnect the High tension and Low tension leads to the coil.
18. Reconnect the fuel temperature and coolant temperature sensor multi-plugs.
19. Remove the protective cover over the intake manifold openings and refit the ram housing.
20. Refit the six bolts securing the ram housing to the intake manifold and tighten to 20-27 Nm (15-20 ft lb). Reconnect the hoses to the outside of the ram housing.
21. Fit the plenum chamber to the ram housing and refit six bolts. Tighten to 22-28 Nm (16-21 ft lb).
24. Reconnect the vacuum supply hose to the cruise control actuator and Refit the distributor vacuum hose to the top of the plenum chamber.
23. Reconnect the potentiometer multi-plug.
22. Refit the two coolant hoses and one crankcase breather hose to the potentiometer side of the plenum chamber.
24. Reconnect the power steering pump to power steering box hose.
25. Reconnect the fluid reservoir hose to the pump.
26. Clean up any spilled fluid.
27. Refit the A/C compressor to its mounting.
28. Refit the idler pulley between the crankshaft pulley and compressor pulley and refit the drive belt.
29. Refit the alternator pivot bolts, drive belt, alternator fasteners and the alternator.
30. Refit the air cleaner assembly to the engine compartment.
31. Refit the air flow sensor complete with hose to the engine compartment. Reconnect the multi-plug to the air flow sensor and attach the two clips securing the air cleaner to the air flow sensor.
32. Tighten the hose clamp securing the hose to the inlet neck of the plenum chamber.
33. Reconnect the multi-plug from the air bypass valve (stepper motor).
34. Refit the fasteners securing the kickdown cable anchor bracket to the plenum chamber bracketry. Reattach the throttle lever return springs.
35. Refit the vacuum hose to the rear of the fuel pressure regulator. Refit the fuel return hose and tighten the hose clamp.
36. Refit the fuel feed hose to the fuel rail and tighten the compression nut.
37. Refit the radiator.
38. Refit the fan cowl, drive belt and viscous unit/fan assembly.
39. Refit expansion tank hose and radiator top hose. Tighten the hose clamps.
40. Refit the bottom radiator hose and refill the cooling system.
41. Refit the battery and reconnect the battery terminals.
42. Refit the hood.
43. Recheck all electrical and fluid connections in the engine compartment. Be sure to check for any leaks when the engine is restarted.
44. Recheck all fluid levels.
