Manual Transmission/Transaxle: Service and Repair

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Remove cooling fan assembly.
3. Remove shift lever knobs from console.
4. Remove console assembly.
5. Remove sound deadener pad from transmission tunnel.
6. Remove gear shift lever.
7. Release handbrake and remove handbrake cable clevis pin. Disconnect handbrake cable.
8. Raise and support vehicle.
9. Drain oil from transfer case, transmission and extension housing.
10. Remove exhaust front pipe.
11. Remove rear propeller shaft guard, then mark transfer case and propeller shaft flanges for installation reference.
12. Raise one wheel on each axle to allow rotation of propeller shaft.
13. Remove propeller shaft from transfer case and position aside.
14. Disconnect electrical connectors from transfer case and transmission.
15. Remove cooler pipe adaptor from transmission.
16. Remove banjo bolts securing breather pipes to transmission and transfer case. Position breather pipes aside.
17. Position a suitable jack under transmission/transfer case assembly.
18. Remove harness bracket from transmission.
19. Remove transmission to engine attaching bolts, then the transmission/transfer case assembly.
20. Reverse procedure to install noting the following:
a. Align friction plate on flywheel using alignment tool No. LRT-12-0.01, or equivalent.
b. Tighten to specification.
