DETAIL

Body noise, vibration, and harshness can be caused by the vehicle body contacting the chassis in places where there should be clearance.

Problem Description

Typically the vibration is felt through the front seats and footwells at engine speeds of approximately 2000-2200 rpm. Body noise and squeaks are heard when the vehicle is in use.

This procedure compliments bulletin 47/01/95/US "Driveline Vibration Diagnosis and Remedy".

ACTION REQUIRED

Upon customer complaint of noise, vibration, or ride harshness follow procedure below.

PARTS INFORMATION

566580 - Flat washer (Qty. 4)
ANR 1504 - Body mounting rubber (Qty. 2)
NZ 606041L - Nut (if needed, Qty. 2)

PROCEDURE

1. Locate the front floor supports and measure the clearance between the rubber pad and the chassis (see illustration).

2. If the clearance is less than 1 mm, remove the pads.

3. If a foul condition exists with the rubber pads removed, add shims at the outriggers as follows in steps a) through f).

Only If a Foul Condition Remains

a) Slacken off fixings securing body shell/chassis at the front outriggers only left and right hand side, (see illustration 2).

b) Displace body mounting bracket from the chassis outrigger mounting boss, sufficiently to insert a 6mm flat washer part number 566580 (as shown in illustration 2, this should be carried out on both left and right hand sides.

c) Refit/secure fixing to correct torque figure 20 lb-ft (26 Nm).

There must be a minimum of 3 threads showing after re-torquing. If there is insufficient thread available then part number NZ 606041L (nut) can be fitted in place of the current specification, only to the left and right hand front outriggers.

d) Repeat operations A-C if clearance is not achieved.

e) Road test vehicle.
