Procedure

Perform the diagnostic procedures and repairs outlined in the following pages for the repair of door mirror wind noise.

NOTE:
Refer to the Workshop manual, Chassis and Body (Section 76) for removal procedures.

1. Remove the inner mirror trim panel. Take care not to break the retaining bracket from the door frame.

2. Unplug the electrical connectors and remove the plug from the carrier.

3. Remove the three 7 mm bolts and remove the door mirror

CAUTION:
Do not remove the harness clamp and screws.

4. Remove the old mirror gasket by pulling the gasket from the mirror..





5. Fasten the gasket support block to the outer mirror casing with adhesive (Figure 1).





6. Remove the paper backing from the large foam block and fasten to the new gasket as shown in Figure 2.

7. Trim the other corner of the block if required to ensure that the square corner of the block is fitted to the square corner of the gasket..

8. Apply butyl to the area shown in Figure 1.

CAUTION:
Be careful not to rip the gasket when fitting the electrical connector through it. If the gasket rips, replace it with a new one.





9. Position the gasket so that the holes in the gasket line up with the studs in the mirror housing and install the new gasket into the housing(Figure 3).

10. Ensure that the foam block attached to the gasket is pushed both ways to cover the holes in the door frame.





11. Clean the door-frame-to-door-skin gap on the mirror mounting flange with solvent and fill the gap with Butyl (Figure 4).

12. Inspect the mirror mounting flange for gaps and fill any gaps found with butyl.

13. Install the mirror by firmly pressing the mirror in place while torquing the mounting bolts to 3-5 Nm. (24-48 lbf.in.)

14. Reconnect mirror electrical connector and install the mirror trim panels.
