Vehicles within the above VIN range may have a loose ignition key Cylinder. The cause of this is insufficient crimping of the cylinder retaining pin.

ACTION REQUIRED

At the first available opportunity, vehicles within the above VIN range should be checked using the following procedure.

If a new steering column lock is required, use the fax order form to order the replacement part.

Upon receipt of your faxed order at LRNA, you will receive within 10 business days a new column lock, coded to the vehicles present key. The part will be shipped to you free of charge via a courier service.

Option 1: Check steering lock cylinder play - 00.25 hr

Option 2: Replace steering lock - 00.85 hr

1. This procedure applies to vehicles with Automatic transmission only.

2. Adjust tilt steering column to lowest position.

3. Carefully remove, by pulling upwards by hand, the upper half of the steering column cowl. Leave the lower half in place.





4. Refer to figure A. Ensure that the white multi-pin connector is attached to its mounting foot. The mounting foot is attached to the lock cylinder retaining pin. Grasp connector and pull towards front of vehicle to check security of the retaining pin. If the pin pulls out, the lock assembly must be replaced. (See parts information.)

5. Mark top of lock assembly with a white "X" (NO other color), as shown in figure A.

6. Check condition of the shear bolts. If sheared go to step 8. If not tighten bolt until the hex head shears off. (see figure B)

7. Refit steering column cowl.
