DETAIL

A light film begins to accumulate on the section of the air conditioning duct near the alpine light after exposure to the Sun and rear air conditioning use. To combat this problem both the plastic interior window sections and the exterior alpine light may need to be removed, cleaned, and refitted.

Note:
This pertains only to those models equipped with the separate rear air conditioning unit.

ACTION REQUIRED

Upon customer complaint of residue accumulation on the air conditioning duct section on the inside portion of the alpine light follow the procedure below.

PARTS INFORMATION

Glass cleaner - Source locally

Locking seal installer - Snap-On part # YA 208A

PROCEDURE

1. Working outside of the vehicle, CAREFULLY remove the rubber locking seal around the alpine light sealing rubber.

2. Remove alpine light, leaving the surrounding seal in the body aperture, and clean both faces of glass with glass cleaner.

3. Clean outside face of the A/C ducting with glass cleaner.

4. Carefully refit alpine window. Use soapy water to assist in replacing the rubber locking seal. We recommend using a locking seal installer (Snap On part # YA 208A), this will ease the reinstallation, improve repair efficiency and reduce the possibility of any damage done to the seal, glass, or car body.

NOTE:
Be careful not to stretch the locking seal when refitting it. If excess seal remains once it is fitted DO NOT trim off the excess.

The final seal installation should result in both ends of the locking seal butting up together. This can be accomplished by using the recommended tool. To use the tool correctly push the tool along the seal groove while guiding the free end of the locking seal into alignment with the groove to assure installation. We also suggest using the installer head opposite the Dodge (D shaped) head.

After cleaning the outboard side of the duct inspect the AC duct, if it still has remaining residue on the inboard piece of plastic continue repair from step 5.

5. Carefully remove and disconnect the left rear stereo speaker.

6. Remove the upper-left hand-rear quarter-trim casing (Part I) by unscrewing the 2 snap covered phillips screws. The rear hatch sealing strip might interfere with removal, so carefully move the interfering section out of the way before completely removing the trim casing.

7. Remove upper-left rear-anchor bolt (5/8") for the seat belt.

8. Carefully remove upper-left hand-rear compartment-trim pad (Part 2). This is done by removing 4 stud fasteners. Begin with the 2 visible studs on the upper portion of the trim pad.

NOTE:
THE REMAINING 2 STUD FASTENERS ARE HIDDEN BEHIND THE TRIM PAD, CAREFULLY REMOVE THE TRIM PAD SO AS NOT TO DAMAGE OR BREAK THEM.

This exposes the inside portion of the clear plastic window section. The left rear compartment window seal might interfere with removal, so carefully move the seal out of the way before completely removing the trim pad.

9. Remove inboard portion of the clear plastic window section by loosening the 8 nuts (7mm) around the window's perimeter.

10. Once removed carefully clean both faces of this piece. In addition, clean the inside face of the outboard clear plastic window section.

11. Cautiously refit plastic window section, trim pad, trim casing, and speaker. Ensure you do not touch the cleaned surfaces, otherwise finger prints will show, and later attract dust. Remember to refit any seals which might have been moved during removal.
