DETAIL

Effective upon depletion of existing stocks of the Lucas Yuasa battery (STC8269), the Interstate MT-34 is the officially recognized Land Rover replacement battery for 1994 to 1997 Discovery vehicles. To ensure proper location and retention of this battery, a spacer must be positioned inside the original equipment hold-down clamp.

When installing the replacement Interstate battery, install the battery clamp spacer to ensure correct battery retention.

PROCEDURE

Removal

WARNING:
During battery removal, always disconnect the negative battery terminal first. Accidental contact of wrench to any grounded metal part could cause a severe spark, possibly resulting in personal injury.

1. Disconnect negative and positive battery terminal.

2. Remove four nuts securing battery clamp.

3. Remove clamp and remove battery.

Installation

Note:
When positioning battery during installation, do not foul the surrounding wiring harness, crash sensor, or A/C tubing.

1. Install battery.

2. Position spacer (AMR3679S) under battery clamp.

3. Place spacer and clamp into position on battery.

4. Install four battery clamp and spacer nuts.

5. Torque nuts and lock nuts as follows:

^ Lower nuts 1.3 Nm (12 lbf.in.)
^ Upper lock nuts 7-10 Nm (62-89 lbf.in.)

6. Connect positive battery terminal and torque clamp bolt to 5.4-6.7 Nm (48-58 lbf.in.)

7. Connect negative battery terminal and torque clamp bolt to 5.4-6.7 Nm (48-58 lbf.in.)
