DETAIL
When a trailer is being towed the trailer direction indicator lamp in the instrument panel should flash to indicate proper operation of the trailer turn signal lamps. From the above VIN's additional turn signal lighting was incorporated into the rear body mounted lamp assemblies (refer to E-Mail Product 86-95/08). The turn signal flasher unit was redesigned to accommodate the additional vehicle lighting. Early production flasher units may have been improperly calibrated. As a result the trailer direction indicator lamp may not flash even though the trailer turn signals are working.
Modified flasher relays are now available from LRNA using the same part number. Any unit date stamped 23/95 or later (week 23, 1995 or later) is to the correct condition.
ACTION REQUIRED
Upon customer complaint of the trailer direction indicator lamp showing inaccurate operation, replace the flasher unit as detailed below.
PARTS INFORMATION
AMR 4873 Flasher unit (date stamped 23/95 or later)
Note:
Do not use YWT10002L, as this is used prior to the above VIN's, in vehicles without body mounted turn signals.
PROCEDURE
Refer to the workshop manual section 86.
1. Check to see if the vehicle has the correct flasher unit with a date stamp of 23/95 or later. If not replace flasher and retest trailer direction indicator lamp operation.
2. If the problem still exists check that all the turn signal bulbs on the vehicle are working. Repair any turn signal not working.
3. If the problem persists and vehicle turn signals are working, check each bulb to ensure they are 21 watt rated. (stamped in base of bulb)
Note:
The customer should be advised to check the trailer has 21 watt bulbs fitted.
