ZF AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION - INTERMEDIATE PLATE MODIFICATION
Beginning with Automatic Transmission Serial No. 1158514, the drain hole on the back of the ATF pump housing was relocated.
This change prevents a complete drainback of the pump on shutdown which provides improved lubrication and ATF flow at start-up.
Replacement oil pumps - Part No. STC224 - are all of the new type and require a modification to the intermediate plate if installed in a transmission built before Serial No. 1158514.
Using the illustration as a guide, re-drill the intermediate plate with an 8 mm bit as shown. Use care when measuring and drilling. Make sure that all chips and burrs are removed before reassembly. We suggest the use of a drill press to ensure accuracy.
Intermediate plates installed from serial no. 158514 contain both drillings and require no modifications.
