Repair Procedure

REMOVAL OF OLD HO2S

Refer to Workshop Manual Section 19, for service repair 19.22.16.

Refer to TIB 17/01/96/US for troubleshooting and testing which might be required in association with this service action.

NOTE:
The care points and additional information presented below MUST be observed when performing this repair.

CAUTION:
Use extreme care when handling the sensor:
^ Do not drop or physically damage the sensor.
^ If sensor has been dropped, do not install on vehicle.

1. Ensure ignition is switched off and exhaust system is cooled to allow handling of the original sensor.

2. Clean any dirt or debris from around the sensor prior to removal to eliminate the possibility of contaminating the sensor threads or the catalyst with foreign particles.

CAUTION:
Do not apply electrical grease of any type to the connectors.

3. Disconnect sensor harness and inspect all harness connectors for signs of corrosion:

^ Clean connectors as necessary with a locally sourced electrical contact cleaner.
^ Verify harness connector seals are present and inspect them for integrity.

4. Remove original production sensor and discard.

HO2S INSTALLATION, CARE POINTS AND HANDLING

CAUTION:
If the new sensor has been dropped IT MUST NOT BE USED.

1. Inspect replacement sensor and ensure that it is free from external damage.

NOTE:
The new sensors are pre-treated with anti-seize compound. No further application of anti-seize material is required.

2. Install new sensor finger tight.

CAUTION:
Use of "crow foot" adapter (LRT-12-047) enables the sensors to be tightened correctly. PROPER TORQUING OF THE SENSOR IS CRITICAL. Experience has shown that if the sensor is over-torqued, there is a possibility that the body of the sensor element can distort, causing a cracked sensor element. Use the proper tool and the proper torque specification.

3. Use adapter LRT-12-047 and tighten new sensor to 20 Nm (15 lbf.ft.).

4. Route the sensor cable to avoid any contact with exhaust or catalyst.

5. Connect harness and sensor connectors until a positive 'CLICK' is heard. Verify connector latches securely.

6. Remove and replace each remaining original production sensor as outlined above.

7. when all original production sensors have been replaced, ensure no fault codes are stored.

8. Clear fault codes as necessary.

NOTE:
Campaign labels are now available as a spare part. For additional quantities when required, order the 100-pack using part number LRN0001 LABEL.

9. Apply a completed campaign label to the front cross member under the hood to identify that Service Action H461 has been performed.
