REPAIR PROCEDURE
REMOVAL
1. Verify that the Ignition key is "OFF."
2. Disconnect the battery negative cable.
3. Remove ECM cover using suitable tool to remove clips.
4. Unplug the ECM connectors and remove ECM.
NOTE:
Ensure that the white anti-back-out strips have not fallen out of connectors. If so, replace them in the connectors.
CAUTION:
Electronic components can be damaged by ESD (Electro Static Discharge), the discharge of static electricity that is normally carried on the human body. This damage can occur immediately or at a later date in the components' life. It is therefore imperative that all anti-static care points listed below are followed to prevent future reliability issues occurring.
ESD care points:
^ All ECM rework MUST be carried out in the anti-static rework area.
^ Always wear the anti-static wristband when in the anti-static rework area and when handling ECM.
^ ECM cover panels must be removed before working in the anti-static work area.
5. Position grounding wristband in place and verify that anti-static mat is properly grounded.
6. Place ECM on grounded anti-static mat with the red connector side up. (Figure 1)
7. Remove five T20 Torx screws from the ECM cover and remove cover.
8. Remove eight Torx screws holding circuit board.
9. Fold circuit board over onto mat exposing chips.
CAUTION:
Circuit board is easily damaged. Do not use screwdrivers or the like to pry covers off.
10. Using suitable pliers carefully remove blue and green chip covers. (Figures 2 and 3)
11. Remove the EPROM's with the PROM-puller supplied with anti-static mat tool.
INSTALLATION
CAUTION:
EPROMS must be mated to the correct socket. One EPROM has 28 pins and the other 32 pins.
1. Orient cutout on the EPROM toward the red connector and match the cutout on the EPROM to the alignment marks on the PROM socket. (Figure 4)
2. Carefully install new EPROMs.
3. Inspect installed EPROMs to ensure there are no bent pins before replacing PROM covers.
4. Install PROM covers.
5. Install circuit board and fasten with 8 Torx screws.
6. Install the outer cover and fasten with screws removed earlier.
7. Torque cover screws to 2.25-2.82 Nm (20-25 lbf.in.).
8. Apply the self-adhesive update label to the side of the ECM indicating that the update has been done.
9. Connect wire harnesses and install ECM.
10. Install ECM cover and washer reservoir if removed.
11. Start vehicle and perform road test.
CAMPAIGN LABEL INSTALLATION
NOTE:
Campaign labels may have multiple Campaign numbers written on them if multiple campaigns are performed at the same time.
1. When all specified repairs have been accomplished, prepare the campaign label (LRN0002LABEL) as follows:
a) Place the label on a hard surface.
b) Use a ballpoint pen to neatly write/scribe in the bare aluminum areas of the label the following information:
^ Recall Campaign code "D215"
^ Your retailer code
^ The date of repair
2. Clean all grease and dirt from the radiator support member.
3. Peel the completed campaign label from the backing paper and position it on the cleaned area of the support member.
4. Roll the label with the special roller tool to ensure that the adhesive makes continuous contact with the support member surface.
