Subject: Automatic Transmission Evaluation Report (ATER) Warranty Claim

Service Bulletin G97-022 announced the implementation of the Land Rover Automatic Transmission Evaluation Report (ATER). Effective immediately, Land Rover North America will not accept a warranty claim for an automatic transmission unless we have a completed ATER on file PRIOR to the replacement.

Upon receipt of the form at Land Rover, a Help Line reference number will be generated and the form faxed back to you. The completed form with the reference number must be attached to the defective transmission when it is requested for return to Land Rover. ZF Industries uses in formation from this form to complete their evaluation. Please be certain that the form is attached in such a way that it is not lost or damaged during transit. As always, automatic transmissions must be completely drained and properly packaged for shipping.

To compensate the Technician for evaluating the condition of an automatic transmission prior to replacement, labor operation 44.90.89/26 can be claimed on all models. The time allowance is 0.90hrs and can be claimed once per repair. Included in this operation is the time to:

1. Test-drive and evaluate transmission for noise, shift quality, fluid quality/quantity, etc. per workshop manual. It is not necessary to attach a pressure gauge and measure pressures.

2. Interrogate E.A.T. system for DTCs

3. Check/adjust shift linkage and kickdown cable

4. Perform Stall Test

5. Complete and fax ATER form

Warranty policy requires that a remanufactured transmission, if available, be used for the repair if the car has already been placed "in service". Please be aware that claims that do not adhere to these procedures will be refused.
