DETAIL
If the rear door glass on a Discovery needs to be replaced there are two areas that may need extra attention:
^ The Center High Mount Stop Lamp (CHMSL) housing needs to be modified in order to place stress on the window grid connectors.
^ The glass mounting flange will have to be checked for irregularities.
NOTE:
Any time the CHMSL housing is removed from the glass it should be modified as outlined in this TIB. New housings may also require modification.
The diagnostic steps and repair procedures detailed on the following page were developed as an element of the Land Rover Way Operation PRIDE. This TIB provides a library location for PRIDE information within the Land Rover North America technical literature system.
ACTION REQUIRED
Whenever removing or replacing a CHMSL modify the replacement lamp before installation to reduce glass stress and check the condition of the mounting flange as outlined below.
PARTS INFORMATION
No parts required
Procedure
NOTE:
Refer to the Workshop Manual, Chassis and Body (Section 76) for rear door glass removal and installation. Refer to the Workshop Manual, Electrical (Section 86) for CHMSL removal and installation.
CHMSL Modification
1. Using a (7 mm.) 9/32 in. drill bit, enlarge the mounting holes as shown in illustration.
2. Using a hack saw or other suitable tool remove material on the upper outside corners of the housing and gasket as shown in illustration.
Check Glass Mounting Flange
1. Examine glass mounting flange on all rear doors regardless of VIN.
2. The glass mounting flange should be straight. Reform any portions that are not straight. The irregularities that have been found have been minor and confined to the upper portion of the opening but they must be dealt with in order to ensure proper installation of the rear door glass.
