Procedure
1. Move and tilt seat completely forward.2. Remove the three trim studs from the bottom back edge of the seat cushion cover (diagram 2).
3. Remove the two edge clips one on the left and one on the right from the seat cover to frame inside the back bottom edge of the seat (diagram 3).
4. Unhook J strip from the frame on the back bottom edge of the seat (diagram 3).
5. Carefully peel the seat cover upwards off the seat cushion, turning it inside out as you go until the lumbar control can be accessed.
6. The lumbar mechanism can now be carefully removed. Inspect the thread surfaces on both the locking ring and the lumbar control mechanism, replace only if components are damaged. Ensure that the correct hand of lumbar mechanism is installed. This is determined by checking that the handle rotates clockwise on a left hand seat and counterclockwise on a right hand seat while looking at the handle for increased lumbar effect (diagram 4). Also check that the key on the handle end of the lumbar mechanism has engaged with the key hole in the seat frame when the locking ring is tightened (diagram 5). The locking ring should be refitted using Locktite 241 for added security. CAUTION - Work quickly when using the Locktite to ensure the locking ring is fully tightened before the Locktite sets. Hand tighten only.
Refitting
7. Roll the cover down smoothing it as you go to ensure no creases are left in the cover.
8. Hook the J strip from the font of the seatback cover to the frame. Pull the two ears of material. one on either side, taught (but not too tight) and secure to the frame with the edge clips. The edge clips which were taken off of the seat can be reused.
9. Refit the three trim studs in the bottom back edge of the seat cover ensuring they locate in the appropriate holes in the frame.
10. Fit the lumbar handwheel.
11. Test for correct performance.
