SITUATION:
HARSH OR ABRUPT SHIFTS
The customer may complain that transmission shift patterns are abrupt or jerky. The fine filter mesh of the pressure regulator may become blocked and cause harsh shifts from 1 to 2, 3 to 2, and 2 to 1.
RESOLUTION:
REPLACE PRESSURE REGULATOR SOLENOID VALVE
Should a customer express concern regarding the shift quality, after verification of the problem replace the automatic transmission pressure regulator solenoid valve with a new specification solenoid valve with a larger screen mesh.

Normal warranty policy and procedures apply.
Material allowance is included in labor operation.
REPAIR PROCEDURE
REPLACE PRESSURE REGULATOR SOLENOID
1. Refer to RAVE section 44.40.01 and remove the automatic transmission valve body assembly.
2. Place the valve body assembly on a clean workbench with pressure regulator side facing upwards.
3. Release and remove the pressure regulator solenoid valve electrical harness securing clip. (Figure 1)
4. Disconnect the electrical connector. (Figure 1)
5. Remove five screws securing the pressure regulator solenoid valve housing. (Figure 2)
6. Release and remove the pressure regulator solenoid valve and housing assembly from the valve body.
7. Clean the new pressure regulator solenoid valve housing and mating surface with a lint free cloth.
8. Align the new pressure regulator solenoid valve and housing assembly to the valve body.
9. Start the five screws securing the pressure regulator solenoid valve housing by hand. (Figure 2)
10. Fully tighten the screws to 8 Nm (62 lbf.in)
11. Install the electrical connector to the pressure regulator solenoid valve.
12. Install harness-securing clip. (Figure 1)
13. Refer to RAVE section 44.40.01 and install the automatic transmission valve body assembly.
14. Fill the transmission with new Dexron III fluid.
15. Check and top up ATF fluid to the correct level, following the procedure outlined in the Maintenance section of the RAVE Workshop Manual.
