Automatic Transmission Removal and Installation Procedure Change
AFFECTED VEHICLE RANGE:
Discovery Series II (LT) VIN: XA900000 to XA907214
XA200000 to 4A870624
SITUATION:
NEW SERVICE PROCEDURE TO REMOVE FOR ACCESS AND INSTALL THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION
NOTE:
Associated repairs that require the new automatic transmission removal and installation workshop procedures will change accordingly. The relevant Discovery II (LT) GTR Workshop Manual Sections will be updated at the next available opportunity.
Land Rover engineering has studied the service process for removal of the automatic transmission.
This bulletin details the significant procedure changes to remove for access and install the Discovery II automatic transmission:
^ Removal of the cooling fan is no longer required;
^ Removal of the handbrake drum is no longer required;
^ Drain and refill of the transfer box oil is not required when removed for access only.
RESOLUTION:
FOLLOW NEW SERVICE PROCEDURE TO REMOVE FOR ACCESS AND INSTALL THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION
Should it become necessary to remove an automatic transmission on a Discovery II, within the VIN ranges provided, refer to the service procedure detailed in this bulletin.
