Oil Filter Adapter Joint Leak

AFFECTED VEHICLE RANGE:

Discovery Series II (LT) 3A771055 to 4A859333

SITUATION:

OIL FILTER ADAPTER LEAK

Poor surface finishing during manufacture of the oil filter head adapter sealing face results in an uneven surface which does not completely seal against the engine block during assembly.

RESOLUTION:

DETERMINE LEAK PATH AND REPLACE ADAPTER

Upon customer complaint of an oil leak from the oil filter area, determine that the leak is from the adapter joint area. Replace leaking adapter with a new part manufactured to improved surface tolerances.

DDW requires the use of causal part numbers. Labor only claims must show the causal part number with a quantity of zero.

Normal warranty policy and procedures apply.
Material allowance is included in labor operation.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

INSPECT LEAK PATH AND REPAIR

1. Position a catch pan under the oil filter and adapter.





2. Refer to Global Technical Reference (GTR), section 12.60.04 and remove the oil filter.

3. Remove the four bolts securing the oil filter head adapter.

4. Remove the adapter and 0-ring.

5. Lubricate and install a new 0-ring (ERR7308) to a new oil filter head adapter (LYP000011).

6. Position the new oil filter head adapter to the engine front cover.

7. Install and tighten bolts to 8 Nm (5.9 lbf/ft).

8. Install the oil filter following GTR procedure.

9. Top up the engine oil as required.
