Recall - Possible Throttle Body Malfunction
No: RB150Ref: D117
Issue: 1
Date: April 23, 2004
RECALL
Potential Throttle Body Malfunction
AFFECTED VEHICLE RANGE:
Discovery Series II (LT)
3A805636 to 3A814411
Build Date:
27 January 2003 to 26 March 2003
SITUATION:
THROTTLE BODY BUTTERFLY MAY NOT RETURN TO CLOSED POSITION
NOTE:
This Recall Action supercedes Recall D117. TIB D117 is replaced by this bulletin.
Throttle bodies used in production within the affected VIN range may have incorrect alignment of the butterfly spindle-bushing bore. Incorrectly bored throttle bodies may experience throttle butterfly sticking.
RESOLUTION:
INSPECT AND IF INDICATED REPLACE THROTTLE BODY
NOTE:
It is important that the DDW "Vehicle Inquiry" screen be consulted prior to any vehicle inspection or repair.
All affected vehicles must have the throttle body inspected to identify suspect units based on the parts batch code tag. Recall B150 expands the date code criteria used in Recall D117 to include batch code "B4". All vehicles within the VIN range must be inspected even if Recall D117 has been performed. If a potentially faulty part is identified by the batch code, the throttle body is to be replaced with a new throttle body from Land Rover or Retailer inventory with an acceptable batch code.
PARTS INFORMATION
NOTE:
Campaign labels are no longer required for Safety Recall Action activities. Retailers should maintain a modest supply of labels for future use with Emissions Recall activities.
WARRANTY CLAIMS:
Warranty claims should be submitted quoting the program code and option from the table shown in place of the normal warranty complaint code. This will result in payment of the stated time and, where applicable parts/miscellaneous expense. The SRO is provided for information only.
REPAIR PROCEDURE
INSPECTION PROCEDURE
NOTE:
The batch code is printed on the yellow label attached to the top of the throttle body. (Figure 1)
1. Inspect the throttle housing on affected vehicles and determine if the batch code is B4, B5, B6, B7, B8, B9, B10 or B11.
^ If the code is one of the above-specified codes, go to Replacement Procedure" and replace the throttle body.
^ If the code is different from the specified codes claim Option A.
REPLACEMENT PROCEDURE
1. Refer to RAVE/GTR section 19.22.45 and remove the suspect throttle body. (Figure 2)
2. Following the RAVE/GTR procedure, install a new throttle body with an acceptable batch code.
CAUTION:
^ The RAVE gap dimensions for cruise control cable adjustment are incorrect. The correct gap range is 0.5 - 1.5 mm (0.020 - 0.060 in).
^ The GTR website information is correct.
3. Ensure that throttle and cruise control cables are properly adjusted:
^ Throttle Cable gap: 0.5 mm +/- 0.4 mm (0.020 +/- 0.015 in)
^ Cruise Cable gap: 1.0 mm +/- 0.5 mm (0.040 in +/- 0.020 in)
