Rear Seat Release Mechanism Repair





AFFECTED VEHICLE RANGE:

SITUATION:

SEAT RELEASE MECHANISM JAMS

A discrete number of Discovery Series II vehicles within a specific VIN range may experience a condition where the operation release function of the second row seats does not work correctly because of an incorrectly specified cable.

RESOLUTION:

INSPECT AND IF INDICATED REPLACE SEAT CABLES

Inspect the second row seat cables on affected vehicles and replace, where indicated, with a correct specification cable following the procedure in this bulletin.

Warranty claims should be submitted quoting the program code and option from the table in place of the normal warranty complaint code. This will result in payment of the stated time and, where applicable parts/miscellaneous expense. The SRO is provided for information only.





Drive in/drive out allowance is included in each of the SROs stated in the table.

Normal warranty policy and procedures apply.
Material allowance is included in labor operation.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

INSPECT RELEASE CABLE

1. Open both rear doors.

2. Maneuver 40% left hand side of rear split seat fully forward to expose the release cable end nipple.





NOTE:
The plastic ferrule on the correct cable end is at least 15 mm in length and has a molded ribbed outer surface. (Figure 1)





3. Inspect the seat release cable nipple end at the seat hinge mechanism on the outboard side of the seat to determine the cable type fitted. (Figure 1 and Figure 2)

4. If the correct cable is fitted, no further action is required.

NOTE:

5. If an incorrect cable is fitted, refer to GTR Workshop Manual sections 78.80.04 and replace the cable.

6. Maneuver 60% right hand side of the rear split seat fully forward.

7. Displace the seat end cover to expose the release cable nipple end.

8. Inspect the seat release cable nipple end at the seat hinge mechanism on the outboard side of the seat to determine the cable type fitted. (Figure 1 and Figure 2)

9. If the correct cable is fitted reinstall the seat end cover. No further action is required.

10. If an incorrect cable is fitted, refer to GTR Workshop Manual section 78.80.04 and replace the cable.

11. Fold seats back to upright position and close the rear doors.
