SRS Warning Lamp Illumination

AFFECTED VEHICLE RANGE:

Discovery Series II (LT) 4A832513 to 4A849850

SITUATION:

SRS WARNING LAMP ILLUMINATES

The customer may complain that the SRS warning light is illuminated.

RESOLUTION:

INVESTIGATE CAUSE

Prior to replacement of any parts, inspect under-seat harness condition and location. When indicated, install new overlay harness. Route and secure all SRS harnesses as described in the procedure.

DDW requires the use of causal part numbers. Labor only claims must show the causal part number with a quantity of zero.

Normal warranty policy and procedures apply.
Material allowance is included in labor operation.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

INSPECT AND IF INDICATED POSITION SRS HARNESS

CAUTION:
Global Technical Reference (GTR), Discovery Series II Workshop Manual, General Information, Electrical Precautions, Battery Disconnection and General Information, Supplementary Restraint System Precautions, Preliminary Procedure contains important information for proper battery connect and disconnect procedures.

NOTE:
GTR lookup sequence is as follows:
GTR Home > NAS > Service Information/ LT Discovery Series II/2004 > Workshop Manuals > Service Procedures> Bookmark "Charging and Starting 86-1-1" > TOC "Charging and Starting/Repairs/battery" link.

1. Refer to GTR section 86.15.01 and disconnect the battery ground cable.

2. Open both front doors.





3. Remove screws and trim clips securing both front seat lower trim casings, and remove the lower trim casings. (Figure 1)

4. Release the pre-tensioner connector retaining clips from both seats.

5. Disconnect the pre-tensioner electrical connectors.

6. Re-route the pre-tensioner harnesses to the rear foot well.

7. Inspect harnesses for damage/chafed wires.

8. If harness is undamaged, go to "Route SRS Pre-tensioner Harness" section.

9. If harnesses have received damage to the insulation only, add insulation tape and go to "Route SRS Pre-tensioner Harness" section.

10. If strands of wire have been damaged perform the following:

^ Refer to SRS overlay harness Technical Bulletin 86/03/04/NAS and install an overlay harness.

^ Claim on a separate Warranty Claim. Go to "Route SRS Pre-tensioner Harness" section.

ROUTE SRS PRETENSIONER HARNESS

1. Re-route the pre-tensioner harness to avoid all moving parts and the potential for jamming.

2. Using locally sourced 25 mm wide black fabric tape secure the pre-tensioner harness as follows:





^ Left-hand side to the top of the amplifier. (Figure 2)





^ Right-hand side to top of the CD changer. (Figure 3)

3. Connect electrical connectors and secure clips to seat frames.

4. Install both front seat lower trim casings, and secure with screws and trim clips. (Figure 1)

5. Close both front doors.

6. Connect battery ground cable.
