Rear Wiper Arm Breaking at Arm Pivot Pin

SITUATION:

REAR WIPER ARM BREAKS AT PIVOT PIN

A tolerance inconsistency exists between the arm pivot pin and the wiper arm head. This results in a weak point at the pivot pin which can result in a crack in the arm under heavy loads - such as snow.

RESOLUTION:

REPLACE WIPER ARM WITH NEW SPECIFICATION ARM

A new specification wiper arm is now available from Land Rover. Upon customer complaint of the above symptoms, follow the repair procedure to replace the wiper arm.

DDW WARRANTY CLAIMS:

DDW requires the use of causal part numbers. Labor only claims must show the causal part number with a quantity of zero.

Normal warranty policy and procedures apply.
Material allowance is included in labor operation.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

REPLACE THE REAR WIPER ARM





1. Remove the spare wheel from the tail door.

2. Release the grommet from the tail door, withdraw and disconnect the washer tube.

3. Raise the nut cover on the wiper arm and remove nut.

4. Remove wiper arm from spindle.

5. Remove the wiper blade from the old arm.

6. Install blade on the new wiper arm.

7. Position the arm assembly on the spindle.

8. Start threads and finger-tighten nut.

9. Tighten the wiper arm nut to 13 Nm (10 lbf.ft) and install the nut cover.

10. Connect the washer tube.

11. Pass the washer tube through door and secure grommet.
