SERVICE ACTION Waist Seal Wind Noise
AFFECTED VEHICLE RANGE:
Discovery Series II (LT) 4A834500 to 4A837192
SITUATION:
GAP AT TRIM JOINT ALLOWS WIND NOISE
Poor alignment of the waist seal to the door frame permits wind to enter the left hand door through the leading edge of the waist seal. This in turn results in unacceptable noise levels.
RESOLUTION:
INSPECT WAIST SEAL JOINT AND REINSTALL IF INDICATED
NOTE:
This Service Action is for un-sold vehicles held in Retailer inventory only.
Prior to retail sale inspect the leading edge of the waist seal for a gap around the leading edge of the doorframe. When a gap is observed, perform the corrective procedures outlined in this bulletin.

DDW WARRANTY CLAIMS:
Warranty claims should be submitted quoting program code B146 together with the option code. This will result in payment of stated time and where applicable parts/miscellaneous expense.
The SRO information listed in the Table has been included for information only. Do not enter the SRO onto the claim.
The options that allow for drive in/drive out may only be claimed when the vehicle has been brought into the workshop for this action alone to be undertaken.
Normal warranty policy and procedures apply.
Material allowance is included in labor operation.
REPAIR PROCEDURE
VERIFY AND CORRECT WAIST SEAL LOCATION
NOTE:
It is important to verify that the unsold vehicle is subject to this Service Action and has not had the repair performed at the Port of Entry.
1. Verify that the vehicle is subject to the Service Action.
2. If inspection is indicated, inspect the leading edge of the waist seal to determine if a gap is present.
3. If no gap is present, install the campaign label and Claim Option A.
4. If a gap is observed, refer to RAVE section 76.10.57 and perform the following:
^ Lower the LHF window
^ Remove the interior mirror trim.
^ Remove foam backing piece.
^ Release electrical connectors from locating clip and disconnect the connectors.
^ Remove three retaining bolts and remove the mirror.
CAUTION:
The waist seal should be removed starting from the back of the door. Careful removal of the seal is required taking care not to bend it.
^ Carefully pry the waist seal loose from door, starting from rear and taking care not to bend it.
^ Reposition the seal onto the door placing the leading edge of the seal flush against the doorframe.
^ Tap the seal down into place using a nylon mallet.
^ Install the mirror and verify that there are no gaps between the mirror and the seal.
^ Tighten the bolts securing the mirror to 4Nm (35.4 lbf.in.).
^ Reconnect the electrical connectors and secure on the retaining clip.
^ Reposition the foam backing piece. Install interior mirror trim.
INSTALL CAMPAIGN LABEL
NOTE:
Campaign labels may have multiple Campaign numbers written on them if multiple campaigns are performed at the same time.
1. When all specified repairs have been accomplished, prepare the campaign label (LRN0002LABEL) as follows:
a) Place the label on a hard surface.
b) Use a ballpoint pen to neatly write/scribe in the bare aluminum areas of the label the following information:
^ Service Campaign code "B146"
^ Your retailer code
^ The date of repair
2. Clean all grease and dirt from the radiator support member.
3. Peel the completed campaign label from the backing paper and position it on the cleaned area.
4. Roll the label with the special roller tool to ensure proper adhesion.
