E-Box Cooling Fan Noise
AFFECTED VEHICLE RANGE:

CONDITION SUMMARY:
SCREECHING NOISE FROM ECM HOUSING (E-BOX) COOLING FAN
Situation: A customer may report a concern of a high-pitched screeching noise coming from behind the fascia or from the engine compartment. Investigation locates the noise to the engine control module housing (E-Box). The E-Box cooling fan is the likely cause of the noise.
Action: Should a customer express this screeching noise concern, refer to the Repair Procedure detailed in this bulletin to resolve the concern.

REPAIR PROCEDURE
REPLACE ECM HOUSING COOLING FAN
NOTE: Global Technical Reference (GTR) lookup sequence is as follows:
GTR Home > NAS > Service Information/ LM - New Range Rover > Workshop Manuals > Service Procedures > Bookmark "General Information" links to "Electrical Precautions" or "Standard Workshop Practices" section "Battery disconnection"
CAUTION: Before disconnecting the battery, all text and CAUTIONS in the "Battery disconnection" section must be observed.
1. Refer to the GTR section for "Battery disconnection" located in "General Information" sections under "Electrical Precautions" or "Standard Workshop Practices" links, and disconnect the battery ground lead.
2. Remove the ten Allen screws securing the E-box cover. (Figure 1)
3. Remove the E-box cover.
4. Remove the three harness grommets from the E-box.
5. Remove the fuse block and relay from the E-box.
6. Remove the Engine Control Module (ECM) and Gearbox Control Module from the E-box.
7. Remove the two screws securing the control module support bracket and remove the bracket.
8. Disconnect the harness electrical connector from the E-box
9. Remove the cooling fan electrical connector from the mounting.
10. Remove the two Torx screws securing the E-box fan to the E-box.
11. Remove the E-box fan.
12. Install the new E-box fan (YQO000031) and secure with two Torx screws.
13. Install the E-box fan wiring harness to the mounting and connect the electrical connector to the E-box.
14. Install the ECM bracket and secure with two screws.
15. Install the ECM and Gearbox Control Module into the E-box.
16. Install the relay and fuse block into E-box.
17. Install the three harness grommets to the E-box.
18. Install the E-box cover and tighten the Allen screws to 2.0 Nm (1.5 lbf-ft).
19. Refer to the GTR section for "Battery disconnection", observing all CAUTIONS, and connect the battery ground lead.
