Second Row Seat Release Fault

CONDITION SUMMARY:
INCORRECTLY ROUTED RELEASE STRAP RESULTS IN SEAT LATCH RELEASE FAILURE
NOTE:
This Technical Bulletin supersedes and replaces Technical Alert TA04 501-LA01
A customer may report that the strap used for releasing the second row seat when exiting from the third row seat is not functioning or is loose. The strap anchor to the seat-base has failed as the result of incorrect routing of the strap. The release strap retainer has detached.
Action:
Should a customer express concern regarding an inoperative 2nd row seat release strap, refer to the Repair Procedure detailed in this bulletin to re-route and re-attach the release strap.

WARRANTY:
DDW requires the use of causal part numbers. Labor only claims must show the causal part number with a quantity of zero.
Normal warranty policy and procedures apply.
Material allowance is included in labor operation.
REPAIR PROCEDURE
INSTALL RELEASE STRAP PROPERLY
1. Using the release handle located at the side of the seat, unlatch and move the seat into the tilted forward position.
NOTE:
The inserts in Figure 1 detail both the correct "check mark symbol" and incorrect "x" release strap orientation.
2. Remove the existing plastic plug from both ends of the release strap. (Insert X Figure 1)
CAUTION:
Correct routing of the release strap is vital to the proper operation of the release mechanism.
3. Route the strap between the underside of the seat and the cross-tube with no twists. (Figure 2)
4. Route the strap through the release bracket with no twists. (Figure 3)
5. Verify that the elastic element of the strap is routed on the underside of the seat with no twists.
6. Verify that both of the strap end-loops are facing forward in the vehicle prior to attachment. (Insert Figure 3)
7. Attach the strap to the underside of the seat using a suitable pop rivet tool and a new pop rivet.
