Air Suspension Pressure Sensor Replacement

AFFECTED VEHICLE RANGE:
Range Rover (LM) *2003 - 2005*

Updated information is shown with asterisks.

SITUATION:
ILLUMINATED EAS WARNING LAMP

A customer may report a concern that the electronic air suspension (EAS) warning lamp is illuminated.

Diagnosis may determine that there is a fault with the EAS pressure sensor.

RESOLUTION:

DIAGNOSE PROBLEM AND IF INDICATED REPLACE PRESSURE SENSOR

The pressure sensor is now available as a service part. Should a customer express concern regarding the above and diagnosis has determined that the EAS pressure sensor should be replaced, refer to the Service Procedure detailed in this bulletin.

PARTS INFORMATION:

* NOTE:
Previously for 2003-2005 vehicles only the EAS reservoir, valve block and sensor assembly has been available to address pressure sensor issues. Now the sensor is available separately. This sensor is also used on 2006- vehicles but is located in the vehicle load space inside the EAS compressor cover.*

DDW WARRANTY CLAIMS:

NOTE:
Repair procedures are under constant review, and therefore times are subject to change; those quoted here must be taken as guidance only. Always refer to DDW to obtain the latest repair time.

DDW requires the use of causal part numbers. Labor only claims must show the causal part number with a quantity of zero.

Normal warranty policy and procedures apply.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

REPLACE PRESSURE SENSOR IF INDICATED

1. Investigate root cause of warning lamp illumination using T4 and appropriate software for the vehicle.

NOTE:
GTR lookup sequence is as follows:

GTR Home> NAS > Service Information/LM New Range Rover/2005 > Workshop Manual > Range Rover Workshop Manual - Service Procedures > Bookmark "60 FRONT SUSPENSION" > Link "60.50.38 - Air suspension system - depressurize and repressurize".

2. If the cause for the warning lamp is determined to be the pressure tank sensor, perform the following:

^ Refer to GTR section 60.50.38 and using T4 depressurize the EAS system.

NOTE:
GTR lookup sequence is as follows:

GTR Home > NAS > Service Information/LM New Range Rover/2005 > Electrical Library > Range Rover 2002 MY ON Electrical Library > Link "FUSE DETAILS/PASSENGER COMPARTMENT FUSE BOX"

^ Refer to GTR Electrical Library fuse details and remove the EAS main fuse (F57 in the passenger compartment fuse box) to prevent any ECU activity.

3. Disconnect the electrical connector from the pressure sensor.

WARNING:
Some residual pressure may remain in the reservoir. Eye, ear and hand protection should always be worn when working on the system.

CAUTION:
To avoid EAS system moisture contamination, the reservoir should not be exposed to atmosphere for extended periods.

4. Remove the pressure sensor.

5. Visually inspect and clean the threads of the pressure sensor mounting in the reservoir.

6. Install a new pressure sensor using the new gasket supplied.

7. Tighten sensor to 9.8 NM +/- 1 Nm. (87 lbf.in +/- 88 lbf.in).

8. Connect the pressure sensor electrical connector.

9. Install the EAS main fuse F57 in the passenger compartment fuse box.

10. Start the engine and allow to idle to fill the EAS reservoir.

11. Using T4 and appropriate software for the vehicle, check for correct EAS operation and clear any existing fault codes.
