Power Fold Mirror Synchronization

AFFECTED VEHICLE RANGE:
RangeRover (LM) VIN: 5A180214 and up

CONDITION SUMMARY:
SIDE MIRROR POWER FOLD INOPERATIVE OR UNSYNCHRONIZED

Customers may complain of inconsistent power fold mirror operation. The complaint may be either that the power fold is inoperative on one mirror, or that the power fold functionality is operational but the folding of the mirrors is not synchronized (one mirror folding inboard while the other folds outboard). These symptoms may also be accompanied by other functions controlled from the door-mounted switch pack being inoperative.

Cause:
Poor electrical connection.

Action:
Should a customer express concern of the above symptoms, follow the diagnostic steps outlined in the Repair Procedure to identify the root cause correct the problem. Please submit an EPQR to inform Land Rover of the root cause found.

Repair procedures are under constant review, and therefore times are subject to change; those quoted here must be taken as guidance only. Always refer to DDW to obtain the latest repair time.

DDW requires the use of causal part numbers. Labor only claims must show the causal part number with a quantity of zero.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

DIAGNOSE AND CORRECT POWER SIDE MIRROR FOLD ISSUES

NOTE:
The power fold button can be confused with other console switches. The switch is identified with an arrow in Figure 1.

1. Confirm customer complaint and verify that the complaint is not operator error.

2. To confirm whether the mirrors have been accidentally knocked out of position (i.e. with one mirror extended and the other in the parked position), an additional operation of the switch will resynchronize the mirror.

NOTE:
If both mirrors are folding, regardless of synchronization, the mirror assembly is not at fault and should NOT be replaced.

NOTE:
Diagnosis and connector checks are performed on both doors regardless of whether one or two mirrors are exhibiting power fold issues. No connectors should be disturbed except as indicated below.

3. Diagnose the mirror synchronization issue as follows:

^ Place the ignition to the "OFF" position.

NOTE:
GTR lookup sequence is as follows:

GTR Home>NAS>Service Information/LM New Range Rover/2006>Workshop Manuals>Range Rover Workshop Manual - Legacy Systems>Bookmark "76-1 Doors"> Link "76.34.01 Trim casing - Front door"

^ Refer to GTR section 76.34.01 and remove both interior front door casings sufficient to gain access to the three connectors on the door ECU leaving all connectors connected.

^ Verify that the locking mechanism on connector C2017 is fully home. (Check mark in Figure 2)

^ Verify that the locking mechanism on connector C2271 is fully home. (Check mark in Figure 3)

^ Verify that the locking mechanism on connector C2016 is fully home. (Check mark in Figure 4)

^ Turn ignition to position 2.

^ Verify the operation of power fold mirrors by pressing the power fold button.

4. If correct operation is restored and the problem was observed and was NOT reported as an intermittent problem, perform the following:

^ Install both interior door casings.

^ Verify operation of all door-mounted functions.

5. If correct operation is not restored or the problem was reported as intermittent or was not observed during testing, perform the following:

^ Disconnect connectors C2016, C2017 and C2271 on both doors.

^ Visually inspect all of the pins.

^ Connect connectors C2016, C2017 and C2271 on both doors.

^ Verify that the locking mechanism on each connector is fully home.

^ Install both interior door casings.

^ Verify operation of all door-mounted functions.

NOTE:
To avoid a repeat complaint, the cause should be identified and rectified. Synchronizing the mirrors alone may only provide a temporary repair.

NOTE:
GTR lookup sequence is as follows:

GTR Home>NAS>Service Information/LM New Range Rover/2006>Workshop Manuals>Range Rover Workshop Manual - Legacy Systems>Bookmark "86-1 Charging and Starting" Link "86.15.01 Battery"

6. If the customer complaint was of unsynchronized folding such as one mirror folds inboard while the other folds outboard, after all connector checks are completed refer to GTR Section 86.15.01 and disconnect and reconnecting the battery to synchronize the mirrors.

7. Submit EPQR to provide root cause and issues encountered feedback.
