Body Controls - Alarm Sounds Upon Liftgate Opening
No.: LS419-002Issue: 1
Date: July 03, 2006
SECTION: 419-01
Anti-Theft Alarm Sounds When Liftgate is Opened
AFFECTED VEHICLE RANGE:
Range Rover Sport (LS) VIN: 6A900129 to 6A955485
CONDITION SUMMARY:
NEW CJB SOFTWARE AVAILABLE TO RESOLVE ALARM SYSTEM TRIGGERING WHEN THE LIFTGATE IS OPENED
Situation:
A customer may report a concern that the vehicle alarm sounds when opening the liftgate. After a remote handset is used to 'release' the liftgate, the Central Junction Box (CJB) expects to receive an 'open' state signal (when the liftgate is physically opened) within a set time period. If the liftgate is not opened within the set time period, after remote activation, the anti-theft system will reset. Opening the liftgate after the alarm system has reset is then registered as an 'unauthorized entry' condition, triggering the alarm system. The current preset time period is a short 400 milliseconds.
NOTE:
The new CJB software increases the time period for "authorized" access to 30 seconds after the tailgate is "released" using the remote handset. The alarm is triggered if the liftgate is "opened" after this time period expires. The customer should be made aware that this anti-theft alarm feature protects the vehicle from "unauthorized" access if the liftgate is accidentally "released" by the remote handset.
Action:
Should a customer express a concern regarding this situation, refer to the Repair Procedure detailed in this bulletin to update the Body Control Module software to increase the authorized entry time to 30 seconds.

REPAIR PROCEDURE
DOWNLOAD LATEST CJB SOFTWARE TUNE
1. If WDS CD13-Patch File 5 (or later) is installed or IDS DVD101 (or later) is being used, go to step 6.
NOTE:
A software patch installation help file located on GTR provides instructions for the patch file installation process and could take up to six minutes to download depending on connection speed. For information on how to confirm that the patch file has been correctly installed onto WDS/IDS, refer to the applicable Patch Process Help File located in GTR. Global Technical Reference (GTR) lookup sequence is as follows:
GTR Home > NAS > Diagnostics/LS - Range Rover Sport/2006 > Patch Files > "Patch Process Help File - T4WDS or IDS" link
2. Logon to GTR from an internet connected PC and download the WDS Patch Process Help File as follows:
^ Select 'Home' from the menu at the top of the main page.
^ From the menus on the left of the page, select 'Diagnostics' as the 'Information Type' and select the relevant model and model year.
^ From the 'All Information' results, select 'Patch Files'.
^ Click the appropriate 'Patch Process Help File - T4WDS' file link.
NOTE:
This could take up to twenty minutes to download depending on connection speed.
3. Using the help file as a guide, follow the instructions to download and save WDS CD13 Patch File 3 (or later).
4. Install the software patch file 'WDS CD13-Patch File 3' (or later) into T4WDS.
5. Verify that WDS successfully restarts.
CAUTION:
A Midtronics PSC-550 Vehicle Power Supply must be connected to the vehicle battery during diagnosis and module configuration.
The diagnostic lead must be correctly secured to prevent accidental disconnection during the software update.
6. Connect the Midtronics PSC-550 power supply to the vehicle battery.
7. Connect the diagnostic equipment to the vehicle and begin a WDS or IDS session.
8. Note the current software levels of the Body Control Module as follows:
^ Enter the vehicle details.
^ Select the 'Vehicle Configuration' tab.
^ Select 'Module Information'.
^ Select 'Network integrity test'.
^ Note the software part numbers displayed on the screen.
NOTE:
During module configuration, the on-screen software part number information that WDS/IDS will display can be checked against the software part number noted in step 8 above. If the same software part number is displayed, the vehicle already has the desired tune level and the software download procedure can be discontinued.
9. Configure the Body Control Module software as follows:
^ Return to the Vehicle Configuration' screen and select 'Module Configuration'.
^ Select 'Configure Existing Modules'.
^ From the sub-menu, select 'Body Control Module'.
^ Click the [Check Mark] tick-box to continue and follow the on-screen instructions.
^ Note the on-screen software part number information that WDS/IDS will display.
10. Compare the Body Control Module software part number displayed on WDS/IDS to the software part number noted in step 8 above.
11. If the same software part number is displayed, terminate the tune download.
12. If a different software part number is displayed, complete the tune download to update the software.
13. Exit the WDS/IDS session and disconnect the diagnostic equipment from the vehicle.
