REPAIR PROCEDURE

MODIFY REAR LIFTGATE GLASS LATCH STRIKER LOOP

1. Visually inspect the rear liftgate window glass latch striker loop to verify there is a black plastic coating applied, as illustrated by the shaded area depicted in Figure 1.

2. If the striker loop has a black plastic coating, the loop may not be the root cause of the noise and further diagnosis is required.

3. If the striker loop does not have a black plastic coating, carry out the repair procedures that follow to apply the service kit.

WARNING:
The safety precautions specified by the adhesive manufacturer must be adhered to.

4. Ensure the surface area of the striker loop is clean.

5. Apply approximately 0.75 in (20 mm) of adhesive from the service kit along the end of the striker loop, ensuring coverage around the complete circumference, as illustrated by the shaded area depicted in the top illustration of Figure 2.

6. Taking a nylon sleeve from the service kit, carefully and evenly "open" the sleeve along the seam enough to fit over the striker loop and applied adhesive.

NOTE:
When installed, the nylon sleeve seam should be positioned at 90° to the striker loop, facing the right-hand side of the vehicle. (Bottom illustration of Figure 2)

7. Fit the sleeve over the striker loop and adhesive and close the sleeve. (Bottom illustration of Figure 2)

8. Apply additional adhesive along the closed seam of the sleeve and wipe away any excess.

NOTE:
The adhesive must be allowed to fully cure. Although the adhesive should be dry in approximately 20 seconds, the liftgate window glass must not be closed for at least 3 minutes.

9. Leave the liftgate window glass open for at least 3 minutes to allow the adhesive to fully cure.

10. Close the liftgate window glass and confirm the noise has been eliminated.

11. If the noise persists, further investigation will be required to determine the root cause of the noise.
