Parking Aid System - Intermittent Operation
No: LS413-001Issue: 2
Ref: LS413-002
Date: 11 Sep 2006
CHANGES MADE FOR ISSUE "2" ARE HIGHLIGHTED WITH ASTERISKS.
SECTION: 413-13 - INSTRUMENT PANEL
Parking Distance System Intermittent Operation
AFFECTED VEHICLE RANGE:
Range Rover Sport (LS)
VIN:
5A900109 to 6A909166
CONDITION SUMMARY:
INTERMITTENT REAR PARKING AID OPERATION
Situation:
A customer may report a concern that the Parking Distance Control (PDC) system does not operate every time when reversing.
The PDC system was configured to receive both "vehicle stationary" and "electronic parking brake" (EPB) signals together to activate the system. In production the system has been changed so that the vehicle stationary' signal is ignored and EPB "drive away" signal activates the system.
Action:
If a customer complains of the intermittent condition, refer to the Repair Procedure detailed in this bulletin to replace the parking aid control module with the latest configuration. Ensure that the customer is instructed on the use of the enhanced front parking aid system.
*NOTE:
A new parking aid system control module has been developed to provide an enhanced front parking aid operation strategy for the customer.
Following a repair, which includes replacement of the parking aid control module, the customer must be informed of this new front parking aid system operation as follows:
The original park aid system strategy activates the front parking sensors when a forward gear is selected following reverse. Sensor operation is deactivated when the vehicle speed exceeds 10 mph (16 kph). Sensor operation will reactivate when the vehicle speed drops below 10mph (16 kph). This sensor activation below 10mph can result in audible warnings as the vehicle is coming to a stop and another vehicle or pedestrian passes in front of the vehicle. A customer may report this audible warning as unnecessary or "false".
This sensor activation is not a fault with the parking aid system. [Technical Bulletin LS413-002 "Front Parking Aid False Warnings" provides a similar module replacement action to resolve customer concerns of unnecessary or "false" front parking aid audible warnings.]
The parking aid operation strategy has now been enhanced to only permit the front sensors to reactivate when the vehicle speed drops below 10 mph (16 kph) and the front parking aid switch, located on the instrument panel, is selected, or until a forward gear is selected following reverse gear selection during parking.*
PARTS:
*NOTE:
This bulletin has been re-issued to update the parts information with a superseded part number. The previous control module YWC500313 is replaced by YWC500550.
The new software strategy is programmed into the new control module (YWC500550) installed into vehicles after the closing VIN 6A909166.*
