Rear License Plate Lamp

CONDITION SUMMARY:
REAR LICENSE PLATE LAMP ASSEMBLY LOOSE
A customer may report a concern that one or both of the rear license plate lamp assemblies is loose.
Cause:
Dimensional tolerances in the opening of the liftgate window glass trim panel, where the rear license plate lamp assemblies are located, can interfere with the correct insertion and engagement of the lamp assembly. The clip can be damaged by the interference.
Action:
Should a customer complain about a loose license plate lamp, refer to the Repair Procedure detailed in this bulletin.

REPAIR PROCEDURE
INSPECT AND REPAIR LICENSE PLATE LAMP ASSEMBLY
1. Open the upper liftgate.
2. Verify if one or both of the lamp assemblies is loose.
3. If a lamp assembly is loose, remove and inspect the lamp assembly for damage as follows: (Figure 1)
^ Release the retaining clip on the left side of the assembly.
^ Remove the lamp assembly from the trim panel.
^ Disconnect the electrical connector.
^ Inspect retaining clamp for damage.
4. If the removed lamp is damaged, install a new license plate lamp as follows:
^ Connect the electrical connector ensuring that the connector engages with a "click".
^ Verify secure engagement by gently pulling on the connector body.
^ Install the lamp assembly.
5. If the lamp assembly does not engage with a "click", perform the following:
^ Remove the lamp.
^ File approximately 0.3 mm (0.012 in) of material from the full length of the engagement tab located on the right side of the affected lamp opening. (Figure 2)
^ Connect and secure the electrical connector ensuring that the connector engages with a "click".
^ Verify the engagement by gently pulling on the connector body.
^ Install the lamp assembly.
6. If a lamp assembly does not appear to be loose or damaged, verify the lamp assembly is installed securely.
7. Verify correct operation of the rear license plate lamps.
