Front Differential Breather Pipe Service Part Availability

AFFECTED VEHICLE RANGE:
Range Rover (LM) VIN: 3A101029 - Onwards
Model Year: 2003 - Onwards

CONDITION SUMMARY:

Situation:

A front differential breather pipe is now available as a serviceable part. It is no longer necessary to replace the complete front differential for issues related to the breather pipe.

Action:

In the event it becomes necessary to replace the front differential breather pipe, refer to the Repair Procedure outlined below.

DDW requires the use of causal part numbers. Labor only claims must show the causal part number with a quantity of zero.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

REPLACE FRONT DIFFERENTIAL BREATHER PIPE

WARNING:
Do not work on or under a vehicle supported only by a jack. Always support the vehicle on safety stands.

1. Raise and support the vehicle.

2. Remove left-front wheel / tire assembly.

3. Clean the area surrounding the front differential case breather tube.





4. Disconnect front differential breather tube hose. (Figure 1)

CAUTION:
Take care not to damage front differential case when removing breather tube.

5. Remove front differential breather tube:





^ Using a suitable tool, remove the front differential breather tube. (Figure 2)








NOTE:
Ensure correct breather tube orientation. (Figure 3 [straight tube] or 4 [angled tube])

6. Ensure correct breather tube orientation and loosely install new front differential breather tube. (Figure 3 or 4)





7. Install special tool 308-794. (Figure 5)





8. Fully install front differential case breather tube. (Figure 6)

9. Connect front differential breather hose to breather tube.

10. Install left-front wheel / tire assembly:

^ Torque wheel nuts to 140Nm (103 lbf ft).

11. Lower vehicle.
