DRAIN PAS SYSTEM
1. Remove the PAS fluid reservoir cap. (Figure 1)
2. Using a syringe, remove the PAS fluid from the reservoir.
3. Release but do not remove the PAS reservoir.
4. Release the PAS return hose from the reservoir. (Figure 1)
5. Cap the PAS reservoir return pipe using a suitable plug. (Figure 2)
6. Attach a suitable pipe to the PAS return hose to allow fluid to drain.
WARNING:
Do not work on or under a vehicle supported only by a jack. Always support the vehicle on safety stands.
7. Raise and support the vehicle.
CAUTION:
Do not start the engine as damage to the power steering system may occur.
8. Turn the steering wheel from lock-to-lock 10 times, allowing the fluid to drain into a suitable container.
FLUSH THE PAS SYSTEM
NOTE:
The flush process will require approximately 0.75 liter (1.6 pints) of PAS fluid (LR003401) to complete.
1. Fill the PAS reservoir with new fluid (LR003401).
2. Turn the steering wheel from lock-to-lock 10 times, allowing the fluid to drain into a suitable container.
3. Install the PAS reservoir
4. Remove and discard the blanking plug.
5. Install the PAS reservoir return hose.
FILL AND BLEED PAS SYSTEM
NOTE:
The Lubrizol additive must only be added once.
1. Add the 50ml Lubrizol additive to the power steering fluid reservoir.
NOTE:
Global Technical Reference (GTR) lookup sequence is as follows:

2. Refer to Workshop Manual (GTR) section 211-00 Steering System - General Information (Power Steering System Filling and Bleeding) to fill and bleed the PAS system.
3. Install the 'Pentosin CHF202' label to a visible location on the PAS reservoir adjacent to Minimum / Maximum marks.
^ Ensure the area is thoroughly cleaned and degreased before applying the label.
^ The purpose of the label is to identify that Lubrizol and Pentosin CHF202 have been added to the PAS system and that if any repairs/maintenance are carried out in the future, only Pentosin CHF 202 should be used to fill the system.
HEAT THE STEERING FLUID TO 100°C +/- 5°C (212°F +/- 10°F)
1. Insert a suitable temperature probe into the fluid reservoir.
NOTE:
The steering maneuver should be carried out on a hard, flat surface outside of the workshop, with the suspension set to standard on-road height.
2. Start the engine.
3. With the vehicle stationary and the steering wheel in the center position (road wheels straight ahead) turn the steering wheel 90° (quarter turn) right and hold firmly with both hands.
^ Raise the engine speed to 2,000 rpm.
^ Monitor the temperature until 100 +/- 5°C (212°F +/- 10°F) is reached.
PERFORMING THE STEERING MANEUVER
NOTE:
SSM36689 contains a video showing the repair outlined in this section to aid in understanding the procedure.
CAUTION:
Do not hold steering at full lock for longer than two seconds with the power steering fluid temperature at 100 +/- 5°C (212°F +/- 10°F), as this may cause damage.
1. Verify the power steering fluid temperature is at 100 +/- 5°C (212°F +/- 10°F), engine idle speed set between minimum 900 rpm and maximum 1,000 rpm.
2. Turn the steering wheel to full lock and hold for two seconds.
3. From full lock turn the steering wheel quickly and rapidly back 90° (quarter turn). (Refer to SSM36689 showing this procedure)
4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 eight times.
5. Turn the steering wheel to the opposite full lock, and repeat steps 2 and 3.
6. Remove the temperature reading equipment from the PAS fluid reservoir.
7. Install the PAS fluid reservoir cap.
8. Road test the vehicle and check for a squeaking noise from the PAS system.
NOTE:
If the vehicle continues to exhibit a squeak after the road test, carry out the 'Heating the steering fluid to 100 +/- 5°C' (212°F +/- 10°F) (Steps 1 - 3) and 'Performing the Steering Maneuver' (Steps 2 - 5) a maximum of two additional times.
