Steering Gear Tie Rod / Tie Rod End - Required Replacement Parts Information





AFFECTED VEHICLE RANGE

CONDITION SUMMARY:

Situation:

On a fix-on-fail basis only, a production update is available allowing the replacement of the original M12 steering outer ball joint with a M14 steering outer ball joint. When performing this repair, several other components also need to be replaced.

Action:

Refer to the Parts list and Repair Procedure outlined below if steering gear tie rod / tie rod end component replacement is necessary.

NOTE:
In the event of front suspension damage, inspect all parts of the steering gear and follow the replacements requirements shown above. Normal Warranty Policies and Procedures apply. Always refer to MicroCat for latest part levels and required hardware.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

NOTE:
Global Technical Reference (GTR) lookup sequence is as follows: GTR Home > NAS > LS - Range Rover Sport > Service Information > Model Year > Workshop Manual > 2: Chassis > 211: Steering System / 204: Suspension

REPLACE TIE ROD(S) - SET

1. Refer to Workshop Manual (GTR) section 211-03: Steering Linkage (57.55.09) and replace the affected tie rod(s) (inner and outer).

2. If no other repairs are necessary, proceed to PERFORM FOUR-WHEEL ALIGNMENT below.

REPLACE TIE ROD END(S)

1. Refer to Workshop Manual (GTR) section 211-03: Steering Linkage (57.55.07) and replace the affected tie rod end(s).

2. If no other repairs are necessary, proceed to PERFORM FOUR-WHEEL ALIGNMENT below.

REPLACE STEERING GEAR

1. Refer to Workshop Manual (GTR) section 211-02: Power Steering (57.10.01) and replace the steering gear.

2. If no other repairs are necessary, proceed to PERFORM FOUR-WHEEL ALIGNMENT below.

REPLACE WHEEL KNUCKLES - BOTH SIDES (IF NECESSARY)

1. If necessary as indicated by repair table above, refer to Workshop Manual (GTR) section 204-01: Front Suspension (60.25.01) and replace both front wheel knuckles.

2. If no other repairs are necessary, proceed to PERFORM FOUR-WHEEL ALIGNMENT below.

PERFORM FOUR-WHEEL ALIGNMENT

1. Refer to Workshop Manual (GTR) section 204-00: Suspension System - General Information and perform a Four-Wheel Alignment.
