REPAIR PROCEDURE

INSPECT AND IF INDICATED REPAIR ROOF TRIM FOR PROPER RETENTION

1. Visually inspect the front ends of the roof trim moldings on both sides of the vehicle to determine if there is proper secure clip retention. (Figure 1)

2. If the clips are secure, the vehicle does not require any further rectification. Claim Option "A" or "K".

3. If unsure of clip retention, perform the following:

^ Carefully attempt to pry up the front of the suspect roof finisher molding using a suitable tool to avoid damage to the vehicle.

^ If the clip is secure, the vehicle does not require any further rectification. Claim Option "A" or "K".

4. If either side trim is not properly retained, perform the follow corrective action on the affected side:

^ Using a suitable tool, carefully pry up the front of the affected roof finisher molding.

^ Place foam or soft plastic between the roof and the trim to maintain a gap during primer and sealer application.

^ Using suitable tool, remove the installed adhesive patch from trim or body.

^ Apply primer (Dow Beta Prime 5404) to the underside of the rubber end of the finisher for about 25 mm (1 inch).

^ Apply primer to the roof under the trim strip starting 5 mm (3/16 inch) above the windshield and extending for about 25 mm (1 inch).

^ Allow primer to dry for 2 minutes.

NOTE:
Only a small amount of adhesive is required to ensure proper trim retention. Too much adhesive could result in excess material squeezing out from under the trim.

^ Apply a daub of Dow Beta Seal U418 adhesive 18 mm (3/4 inch) in diameter to the roof with the edge of the adhesive approximately 5 mm (3/16 inch) above the windshield.

^ Remove the foam/plastic spacer that was inserted under the trim.

^ Ensure that the roof trim is clipped down to the roof and that the rubber trim is positioned under the front windshield trim.

^ Push trim down against roof and adhesive.

^ Using yellow glazing tape, secure the trim in position to allow the adhesive to cure in the correct position. Place the tape across the roof and trim starting at the door and taping to the roof.

^ Allow a two hour cure time.

^ Remove tape.
