Cigarette Lighter: Description and Operation

Cigar Lighter

DESCRIPTION

Introduction
The cigar lighter is located in the instrument panel center switch pack and can be operated when the ignition switch is in the 'auxiliary' or 'ignition' positions.

When the cigar lighter element is pushed into the cigar lighter, power is automatically switched through its locking clips to the heater coil. As current passes through the heater coil, the element will heat up to the point where the locking clips expand and release the cigar lighter element.

CAUTION: The cigar lighter should NOT be used for accessory power or damage may result.

OPERATION

Power Distribution
Feed from the positive battery terminal (C0192) is supplied to fusible link 11E and fusible link 18E (C0632) on an R wire. Both are located in the Battery Junction Box (BJB). Fusible link 18E (C0570) is connected to fuse 55P (C0583) by an NS wire. Fuse 55P is located in the Central Junction Box (CJB) and provides a constant battery feed to the cigar lighter relay.

Fusible link 11E (C0570) is connected to the ignition switch (C0028) by an N wire. When the ignition switch is in the 'auxiliary' position, current flows across the switch (C0028) to the cigar lighter relay coil (C0582) on a W wire. The relay coil (C0585) is provided a ground on a B wire.

The energised cigar lighter relay (C0582) provides a feed to the cigar lighter (C0089) on a LGW wire. When the cigar lighter element is pushed into its holder, the switch contacts close and a ground path is created on a B wire.
