Body-Side Moldings - Installation Procedure
AFFECTED VEHICLE RANGE
CONDITION SUMMARY:
Situation:
An issue where the body-side moldings peel away from the body panels has been identified. This issue may be caused by the moldings not adhering properly due to poor vehicle preparation during the installation process.
NOTE:
Refer to SSM40899 (GTR) for video of the installation process.
Action:
In the event it becomes necessary to replace / install body-side moldings, refer to the Installation Procedure outlined below.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
INSTALL BODY-SIDE MOLDINGS
NOTE:
Refer to SSM40899 (GTR) for video of the installation process.
1. Verify vehicle front and rear door panels do not have 'paint protection' applied; remove if necessary.
2. Thoroughly clean door panels, removing all surface dirt, grime, etc.
3. Dry door panels.
4. Using supplied surface cleaner, wipe door panels where body-side moldings are to be installed.
CAUTION:
Allow 60 seconds for surface cleaner to evaporate before applying heat.
CAUTION:
Hold heat gun approximately 15cm (6in) from door panel, continually move across the panel to avoid excessive heating.
5. Holding heat gun approximately 15cm (6in) from door panel for 60 seconds, warm door panel to 20-30°C (68-86°F).
CAUTION:
Hold heat gun approximately 15cm (6in) from body-side molding, continually move across the molding to avoid excessive heating.
6. Holding heat gun approximately 15cm (6in) from body-side molding for 60 seconds, warm molding to 30°C (86°F).
7. Ensure proper body-side molding location as per installation instructions supplied with kit.
CAUTION:
Do not touch adhesive area after protective backing is removed.
8. Remove protective backing from body-side molding.
NOTE:
Body-side moldings can only be installed once; if installed incorrectly or damaged, moldings cannot be claimed as Warranty.
9. Align straight end of body-side molding 5mm (0.20in) from door edge:
10. Install body-side molding to door panels:
^ Front doors: start at rear of door (B/C pillar); apply pressure along its length.
^ Rear doors: start at front of door (B/C pillar); apply pressure along its length.
11. Using a folded, clean, dry cotton rag, apply significant pressure around the outer edge of the body-side molding. (Figure 1)
CAUTION:
Do not wash vehicle for 24 hours.
