V. WORK PROCEDURE

A. INSPECTION PROCEDURE

1. INSPECT THE DRL RESISTOR

(a) Inspect the vehicle to see if a DRL resistor is already installed. If already equipped, the resistor will be mounted on the right fender well between the air cleaner housing and the firewall.

B. RESISTOR INSTALLATION PROCEDURE (ALL VEHICLES)

1. INSTALL DRL RESISTOR AND WIRE HARNESS

(a) Record audio station presets.

(b) Disconnect the negative battery negative terminal.

(c) Remove the bolt and DRL relay No. 3.

(d) Disconnect the connector closest to the mounting bracket from DRL relay No. 3.

(e) Install the DRL resistor with the two new bolts.

Torque:
5.0 Nm (51 kgf.cm, 3.7 ft.lbf)

(f) Connect the new wire harness connector to the running light resistor.

(g) Route the new supplied relay wire (from the running light resistor) by passing it under the air cleaner duct towards the DRL relay No. 3.

(h) Clamp the relay wire and engine room No. 2 wire to the wire harness near the ground wire using one of the new wire clamps.

(i) Clamp the relay wire and engine room No.2 wire at the rear side of the connector as shown in the photo with one of the new wire clamps.

(j) Connect the disconnected connector from the DRL relay No. 3 to the new wire harness.

(k) Fold the connector as shown in the figure.

(L) Secure the wire harnesses together with one of the new wire clamps.

(m) Insert the relay wire connector into the DRL relay No. 3.

(n) Clamp the wire at the position shown in the figure with one of the new wire clamps.

(o) Reinstall the DRL relay No. 3 to the engine room side wall with the original bolt.

For 1998-2002 MY vehicles, proceed to step 3 Function Check

For 2003-2005 MY vehicles proceed to section C JUNCTION BLOCK MODIFICATION

C. JUNCTION BLOCK MODIFICATION (2003-2005 MY VEHICLES ONLY)

1. JUNCTION BLOCK MODIFICATIONS

(a) Disconnect the positive battery positive terminal.

(b) Remove the battery.

(c) Remove the four mounting bolts from the junction block.

(d) Disconnect 7 claws and remove the junction block under cover.

(e) Loosen the bolt shown and remove the 1A connector.

(f) Remove the connector cover by releasing the two locks.

(g) Remove the connector by releasing the two locks.

(h) Remove No. 22 terminal (red and yellow wire) from the connector.

NOTE:
Slightly raise the terminal locker on the connector side. (The locker does not disconnect from the connector.)

2. DISENGAGE SECONDARY LOCKING DEVICE OR TERMINAL RETAINER

(a) Using the double locking pick tool (P/N 00002-27195) or a terminal pick, unlock the terminal retainer.

NOTE:
^ The terminal retainer must be disengaged in order to remove the terminal from the connector.

^ Do not remove the terminal retainer from the connector body.

(b) Release the locking lug from the terminal and pull the terminal out from the backside of the connector.

(c) The locking device must be disengaged before the terminal locking clip is released and the terminal is removed from the connector.

NOTE:
^ Make sure that the terminal is in the correct position.

^ Insert the terminal until the locking lug locks firmly.

^ Insert the terminal with the terminal retainer disengaged.

(d) Cut off the terminal approximately 3.25 inches (80 mm) from the end.

(e) Cover the cut wire with the electrical tape.

(f) Insert the new wire into the No. 22 terminal and the No. 20 terminal.

(g) Press the terminal retainer into the full lock position.

NOTE:
Ensure that the terminal retainer is completely locked back in.

(h) Bind all the wires with electrical tape.

(i) Reinstall the connector.

(j) Bind the wires with electrical tape as shown in the figure.

(k) Reinstall the connector cover.

(L) Reinstall the 1A connector to the junction block.

^ The headlights automatically turn to full intensity in low light conditions, even with the light switch in the "OFF" position.

^ DO NOT place the shop light directly on the instrument panel or the Automatic Light Control Sensor, doing so may damage or cause these components to melt or catch on fire.

(h) Confirm operation of the headlights.

(i) Confirm that the headlight indicator light on the instrument panel illuminates properly.

VI. COMPLETION LABEL INSTALLATION

After completing the pre-delivery activity, an SSC completion label, must be affixed to the left front door hinge post, near the check strap.
