Introduction
Some RX models may exhibit water intrusion into the rear of the vehicle due to cracked body seam sealer just above the back door strut mounting area. The following repair information has been provided to correct this condition.
Production Change Information
This TSIB applies to vehicles produced BEFORE the Production Change Effective VINs shown.
Warranty Information
APPLICABLE WARRANTY
^ This repair is covered under the Lexus Comprehensive Warranty. This warranty is in effect for 48 months or 50,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle's in-service date.
^ Warranty application is limited to correction of a problem based upon a customer's specific complaint.
Repair Procedure
1. Visually inspect both sides for cracks at the seam above the upper back door strut mounting bracket.
A. If water is present proceed to step 2 of the repair procedure.
B. If No water is present STOP The source of water is coming from a different location. This TSIB does NOT apply.
2. Send the vehicle to the body shop.
3. Repair the back door strut mount bracket area by performing recommended repair procedures. Refer to the Technical Information System (TIS) and the following paper manuals:

NOTE

4. Disconnect cable from negative battery terminal before welding.
CAUTION
Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to prevent airbag and seat belt pretensioner activation.
A. Record radio presets.
B. Add a spot weld to the location as illustrated below to left and right strut area (Left side shown for reference).
5. Apply seam sealer to the weld location and repaint the rear hatch area according to the paint manufacturer's recommendations.
6. Confirm leak is eliminated by water testing.
7. Connect battery and reinitialize the moon roof and reset radio as necessary. Refer to TSIB "Initialization of Power Back Door During PDS".
