TSB REVISION NOTICE:
- October 31, 2005: The Warranty Information table has been updated. Repair Procedure 6 has been broken into Repair Procedure 6 and 7. Combo G has been added.
- June 14, 2005: 2005 model year has been added to Applicable Vehicles. Repair Procedures A-F have been renamed with numbers (procedures 1-7). TMMC VINs have been added to the Production Change Information table. Repair Procedure 6 (previously Repair Procedure F) has been clarified with new illustrations and steps. Two additional repair items have been included and should be performed when the dash is removed. Time for these repairs have been reflected in Combo A of the Warranty Information table.
Previous versions of this TSB should be discarded.
INTRODUCTION:
Some customers may complain of rattle noises coming from the front dash area of the vehicle. The following procedures have been developed to reduce these noises.
APPLICABLE VEHICLES:
- 2004 - 2005 model year RX 330 vehicles produced BEFORE the Production Change Effective VIN shown below.

REPAIR PROCEDURES:
Please refer to the VIN and location tables to determine the proper method of repair.
REPAIR PROCEDURES 1:
Front of Instrument Panel Center Area (Defroster Nozzle)
Refer to TSB0618, "Instrument Panel Rattle," to remedy noise from front of instrument panel center area.
REPAIR PROCEDURES 2:
Cowl Louver Area
1. Remove cowl cover.
A. Follow the instructions in ETAS, applicable model year RX330 Repair Manual: Windshield/Windowglass/Mirror; Windshield Glass for the removal of the cowl cover.
2. Cut 8 pieces of felt in the following dimensions:
Length: 40 mm (1.57 in.)
Width: 10 mm (0.39 in.)
Thickness: 1.5 mm (0.06 in.)
3. Wrap each of the 8 claws with felt.
REPAIR PROCEDURES 3:
TRAC OFF Switch Area
1. Follow the precautions and instructions to remove the lower instrument finish panel sub-assembly as identified in ETAS, 2004 or 2005 model year RX330 Repair Manual: Instrument Panel/Meter; Instrument Panel Safety Pad-Sub Assembly; Precaution and Replacement.
2. Locate the TRAC OFF switch wire harness that contacts the A/C duct for the floor.
3. Wrap the switch wire harness with sponge foam tape where contact between the wire harness and ducting is made.
REPAIR PROCEDURES 4:
Defroster Duct (Wire Harness Above Duct)
1. Follow the Precautions and Instructions to Remove the Dash Pad Sub-assembly as identified in ETAS, 2004 or 2005 model year RX330 Repair Manual: Instrument Panel/Meter; Instrument Panel Safety Pad Sub-Assembly; Precaution And Replacement.
2. Flip dash pad so that it is upside down.
3. Locate Instrument panel wire harness that runs along the underside of the dash pad above the defrost ducting.
4. Wrap connector using sponge foam tape.
REPAIR PROCEDURES 5:
Driver's Side Cup Holder Area
1. Follow the precautions and instructions to remove the driver's side vent and cup holder as identified in ETAS, 2004 or 2005 model year RX330 Repair Manual: Instrument Panel/Meter; Instrument Panel Safety Pad Sub-Assembly; Precaution and Replacement.
2. Locate the remote control mirror switch wire harness where it contacts the cup holder.
3. Wrap sponge tape around remote control mirror switch wire harness where it contacts the cup holder.
REPAIR PROCEDURES 6:
Instrument Panel Front Area (Insertion Pins)
Follow the precautions and instructions to remove the dash pad sub-assembly as identified in ETAS, 2004 or 2005 model year RX330 Repair Manual: Instrument Panel/Meter; Instrument Panel Safety Pad Sub-Assembly; Precaution and Replacement.
REPAIR PROCEDURES 7:
Instrument Panel Front Area (Insertion Pins)/Bulkhead/HVAC Cover Insulation
1. Locate the 3 white insertion clips that contact the bulkhead.
2. Remove the 3 white insertion clips by removing the Phillips-head screws.
3. Cut off the tips of the pins under the insertion clips (refer to Figure 5).
4. Reinstall the white insertion clips onto the dash pad using previously removed screws.
5. Wrap felt around the white insertion clip, if not present, before reinstallation of the dash assembly into the vehicle.
6. With dash pad removed, remove the white defroster duct cover as shown.
7. Flip duct cover over.
8. Apply 3 x 3 x 30 mm foam strips (available in Noise Kit) as shown below to the underside of the HVAC housing cover.
9. Reinstall the cover when completed.
10. Insulate the top edge of the bulkhead/firewall by applying the black sponge/foam tape on the top edge of the bulkhead where the dash panel and the bulkhead come together.
After completing all the necessary repair procedures, reassemble all the dash components.
REPAIR PROCEDURES 8:
Combination Meter Area (Wire Harness Behind)
1. Follow the precautions and instructions to remove the meter cluster as identified in ETAS, 2004 or 2005 model year RX330 Repair Manual: Instrument Panel/Meter; Instrument Panel Safety Pad Sub-Assembly; Precaution and Replacement.
2. Locate wire harness directly above the meter cluster.
3. Wrap sponge tape around wire harness where contact is made with the meter cluster.
