Introduction

Some 2004 - 2005 model year RX 330 vehicles produced in North America, equipped with 4WD, may display evidence of a leak from the transfer case extension housing seal. Manufacturing processes have been improved to prevent this condition.

Warranty Information

Applicable Warranty:

This repair is covered under the Lexus Powertrain Warranty. This warranty is in effect for 72 months or 70,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle's in-service date.

* Warranty application is limited to correction of a problem based upon a customer's specific complaint.

Repair Procedure

1. Confirm source of leak is the transfer case extension housing seal and NOT another attached component, such as the driveshaft yoke.

2. Remove and replace the oil seal assembly. Refer to the Technical Information System (TIS), 2004 - 2005 model year RX 330 Repair Manual:

^ Transfer: Transfer Extension Housing Type T Oil Seal (4WD): Replacement (RX 330).

3. Check transfer case fluid level.

4. Road test and confirm that there is NO leak from the transfer case extension housing seal.
