Rear Seat Leather Rubbing Noise

Applicability
Introduction
Some customers may complain of a leather-to-leather rubbing noise coming from the rear seats at the armrest when the armrest is in the up position. A new anti-squeak leather conditioner has been developed to address this condition. Please use the following repair information to correct this issue.
NOTE
It is recommended to clean the leather of the vehicle at least twice a year to maintain the quality of the vehicle's interior.

^ This repair is covered under the Toyota Comprehensive Warranty. This warranty is in effect for 48 months or 50,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle's in-service date.
^ Warranty application is limited to correction of a problem based upon a customer's specific complaint.

Precautions
Removal Procedure
1. Remove the rear seat assembly RH LH and center by removing the deck board sub-assembly.
Disengage the 5 clips and fold the front side of the deck board sub-assembly upward.
NOTE
It is NOT necessary to remove the 2 bolts for the deck board sub-assembly.
2. Remove the rear seat track bracket cover.
A. Move the RH rear seat assembly to the rear-most position by operating the rear seat track adjusting handle.
B. Using a tape covered screwdriver disengage the 4 claws. Pull the 2 rear seat track bracket covers toward the rear of the vehicle and remove them.
3. Remove the RH rear seat assembly.
A. Using a clip remover remove the 5 rear seatback board clips.
B. Remove the bolt and disconnect the floor anchor side of the fold seat stopper band assembly No. 1.
C. Remove the 5 seat frame bolts and the RH rear seat assembly.
4. Remove the rear seat headrest assembly center.
5. Remove the LH rear seat assembly.
NOTE
^ Use the procedures in steps 2 and 3 to remove the rear seat assembly LH.
^ It may NOT be necessary to remove the left rear seat.
6. Remove the rear seat assembly center.
A. Remove the LH reclining cover protector.
(1) Remove the clip with a clip remover.
(2) Remove the screw.
(3) Remove the LH reclining cover protector as shown in Figure 3.
B. Remove the LH center seat hinge cover upper.
(1) Remove the screw.
(2) Disengage the claw and remove the upper LH center seat hinge cover upper.
C. Remove the center seat assembly.
(1) Release the rubber band on the backside of the rear seatback board sub-assembly.
(2) Remove the 2 hog rings from underneath the center seat.
(3) Remove the 4 bolts and the center seat assembly.
D. Remove the rear center seat armrest assembly. Using a "Torx" socket wrench (T45) remove the 2 "Torx" bolts and the center rear seat armrest assembly.
Application Procedure
1. Apply conditioner to the bottom of the seatback.
While holding the seatback cover apply conditioner in a 30 mm (1.2 in.) width area from the bottom end of the seatback cover.
NOTE
After conditioner is applied, avoid making contact with the surface until it is completely dry. (Summer season, approximately 1 minute, Winter season, approximately 2 minutes).
2. Apply conditioner to the left side of the RH rear seatback as shown in Figure 5.
NOTE
After conditioner is applied, avoid making contact with the surface until it is completely dry. (Summer season, approximately 1 minute, Winter season, approximately 2 minutes).
3. Apply conditioner to the right side of the LH rear seatback as shown in Figure 6.
NOTE
After conditioner is applied, avoid making contact with the surface until it is completely dry. (Summer season, approximately 1 minute, Winter season, approximately 2 minutes).
4. Apply conditioner to both sides of the center rear seat armrest as shown in Figure 7.
NOTE
After conditioner is applied, avoid making contact with the surface until it is completely dry. (Summer season, approximately 1 minute, Winter season, approximately 2 minutes).
5. Apply conditioner to both sides of the center seat cushion as shown in Figure 8.
NOTE
After conditioner is applied, avoid making contact with the surface until it is completely dry. (Summer season, approximately 1 minute, Winter season, approximately 2 minutes).
6. Apply conditioner to the bottom of the center rear seat headrest assembly.
Apply a strip of conditioner 15 mm (0.6 in.) wide from the stitch toward the vehicle front on the center backside of the rear seat headrest assembly as shown in Figure 9.
NOTE
After conditioner is applied, avoid making contact with the surface until it is completely dry. (Summer season, approximately 1 minute, Winter season, approximately 2 minutes).
Installation Procedure
1. Install the center rear seat assembly.
A. Install the center rear seat armrest assembly.
(1) Using a Torx socket wrench (T45) install the center rear seat armrest.
Torque: 21 N.m (214 kg.cm, 16 ft.lbf)
B. Install the center seat assembly
(1) Install the center seat assembly with the 4 bolts.
Torque: 21 N.m (214 kg-cm, 16 ft.lbf)
(2) Install 2 NEW hog rings.
(3) Install the rubber band on the backside of the rear seatback board sub-assembly.
C. Install the center upper LH seat hinge cover.
D. Install the LH reclining cover protector.
2. Install the center rear seat headrest assembly.
3. Install the RH rear seat assembly RH.
A. Place the RH rear seat assembly in the vehicle and align the adjuster pin of the seat track with the hole on the vehicle side.
B. Temporarily install the front side of the RH rear seat assembly with the 2 bolts.
C. Move the RH rear seat assembly fully forward.
D. Temporarily install the rear side of the RH rear seat assembly with the 3 bolts.
E. Fully tighten the 3 bolts on the rear side of the RH rear seat assembly in the following order:
1. Inner side bolt
2. Outer side bolt
Torque: 37 N.m (377 kg.cm, 27 ft.lbf)
F. Return the separate rear seatback to the upright position.
G. Fully tighten the 2 bolts on the front side of the RH rear seat assembly in the following order:
1. Inner side bolt
2. Outer side bolt
Torque: 37 N*m (377 kg.cm, 27 ft.lbf)
H. Install the floor anchor side of the fold seat stopper band assembly No.1 with the bolt.
Torque: 9 N.m (92 kg.cm, 80 ft.lbf)
I. Install the 5 clips of the rear seatback board.
4. Install the LH rear seat assembly.
Torque: 37 N.m (377 kg.cm, 27 ft.lbf)
5. Install the rear seat track bracket cover.
6. Install the deck board sub-assembly.
