INTRODUCTION:
Some owners of 2006 model year RX 330 vehicles may experience a foul odor from the exhaust system during the first miles of use. The origin of this smell has been isolated to excess stamping oil from the manufacturing process on the Bank 1 (Rear Bank) exhaust manifold heat shields. In order to reduce this odor, it is necessary to thoroughly clean the heat shields using an organic-based solvent.
APPLICABLE VEHICLES:
- 2006 model year RX330 vehicles.
REPAIR PROCEDURE:
Clean the exhaust manifold heat shields.
1. Allow the exhaust system to cool to the touch.
2. Remove the exhaust manifold heat shield upper and lower halves.
3. Use an organic solvent, such as Naphtha, to clean any excess stamping oil from the heat shields.
NOTE:
Some areas of the heat shields may require soaking for at least 5 minutes and then wiping in order to get the surface effectively cleaned.
4. Reinstall the upper and lower halves of the exhaust manifold heat shield.
