INITIALIZATIONThe initialization procedures are given.
System Name
Variable Gear Ratio Steering System
Meter / Gauge System
1. STEERING ANGLE SENSOR INITIALIZATION
a. Turn the ignition switch ON and check that the VGRS and VSC/TRAC warning lights illuminate for a few seconds.
NOTE: If the warning lights remain on or blink, repair the applicable system.
b. Drive the vehicle on a straight road at 35 km/h (22 mph) or more for 5 seconds or longer. At this point, the steering wheel will still remain off-center by 5 to 10°.
HINT: In this step, the neutral position of the steering wheel is restored from the VGRS ECU memory.
c. After performing normal cornering 2 to 3 times, the steering wheel position is automatically corrected.
NOTE: If the steering wheel remains off-center after the above procedure, repair the applicable system.
d. Confirm that the steering angle sensor initialization is completed.
WHEN USING INTELLIGENT TESTER:
Use this procedure to center the steering wheel when the STRAIGHT ANG FLG from the VGRS DATA LIST reads VALID.
WHEN NOT USING INTELLIGENT TESTER:
1. Drive the vehicle on a road at 60 km/h (37 mph) or more for 30 seconds or longer.
HINT: At this time, if the steering angle initialization is not completed, the VGRS system is stopped.
2. Stop the vehicle with the engine running.
3. Slowly turn the steering wheel from lock to lock.
HINT: Allow 2 seconds or more for 1 turn.
4. If it rotates approximately 2.4 turns, the steering angle sensor initialization is completed. If it rotates approximately 3.5 turns, the steering angle sensor initialization is not completed.
