Drive Belt: Service and Repair

DRIVE BELT

COMPONENTS:





REMOVAL





1. REMOVE DRIVE BELT
a. Loosen the belt tension by turning the belt tensioner counterclockwise, and then remove the drive belt.

HINT: The pulley bolt for the belt tensioner has a left-hand thread.

INSPECTION
1. INSPECT DRIVE BELT





a. Visually check the belt for excessive wear, frayed cords, etc.

HINT:
^ If any defect is found, replace the drive belt.
^ Cracks on the rib side of a belt are considered acceptable. If the belt has chunks missing from the ribs, it should be replaced.





b. Check that it fits properly in the ribbed grooves.

HINT: Check with your hand to confirm that the belt has not slipped out of the groove on the bottom of the pulley.

INSTALLATION
1. INSTALL DRIVE BELT





a. Set the belt to everything except the No. 2 idler pulley, as shown in the illustration.
b. Loosen the belt by turning the belt tensioner counterclockwise.
c. Set the belt to the idler pulley.





d. After a new belt has been installed, check that the mark is within the A range shown in the illustration.
